You don’t sound like a robot when you speak in your mother tongue (no offence to real robots reading this), so why learn a new language only to talk like one? We want to get you confidently speaking a language like you’ve always wanted, not just memorising a list of vocabulary words or learning sentences you’ll never use.
Give us a go – your first lesson is free!
LEARNING WITH BABBEL
• 14 languages available: Spanish, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Polish, English, Indonesian, Dutch, Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian. Probably best you don’t try them all at once.
• Made by humans – expert linguists are behind all of our courses. We keep them warm and well-fed.
• Choose courses on topics you care about, and learn what matters to you.
• 15 minute lessons (on average) – learn without upsetting your calendar (we know how sensitive it can be).
• Progress is synced across all devices, and all content can be downloaded for offline use. So you can learn anytime and anywhere, except in your sleep (we’re still working on that technology).
• Review Manager – helps you keep new vocabulary up there once you’ve learnt it.
• Easy to use – simple and clear interface.
• We’re also available on Apple Watch – another easy way to practice on the go.

Ratings and Reviews
Well worth it!
**First important point: purchase your subscription through the Babble website - its quite a bit cheaper than buying through the App Store!**
I had a 180 day streak on Duolingo when I decided to take the next step and use a paid service to further my learning and after looking into both Babble and Rosetta Stone I decided Babble was more suited to my learning style. What Babble does differently (to Duolingo, I can’t really comment on comparisons to RS) is it teaches you proper grammar, with very useful pointers contained in each lesson teaching you how to use the words you’re learning. You also get the benefit of natural sounding speech and a vocabulary review section so you can always look back at what you’ve already studied at any time.
I’m two weeks into Babble German (casual learning, 2 lessons a day) and I have already noticed a marked improvement in my German comprehension skill.
I still love Duolingo and am still maintaining my (now near 200 day) streak but Babble is definitely the next step once you decide that you’re enjoying learning a new language.

Hi, thanks for sharing your detailed feedback. We‘re happy to hear the Babbel method suits your learning needs. Best of luck with your German studies!
Confusing and dull
I bought a 3-month subscription to Babbel recently and I am really very disappointed. The content is very disorganised, with no clear direction as to which courses to follow in which order. The ‘novice’, ‘beginner’ and ‘intermediate’ courses in themselves seem to jump between random topics and also introduce new grammatical rules, words...etc without explanation. Altogether this makes the app both confusing and very boring...I’m finding it hard to motivate myself to use it. The ‘review’ system seems to work in a way that it only repeats (a fraction of) the lesson content once, shortly after I learn it, and very sporadically thereafter. This means I forget the content very quickly, can’t anticipate what content will come up in the review and can’t actively review lessons except by reading through a very long list of phrases in alphabetical order. There is no concession for typos and the written exercises require punctuation on some exercises but not others, which feels silly since the keyboard they provide doesn’t even allow you to use capital letters. The free trial only covers very basic content so while I wasn’t blown away by it I made the erroneous assumption that the rest of the course would be better. Silly mistake! If you’ve been using free apps like Duolingo and are wondering whether you should pay for something better, I’m afraid this isn’t it imo!

Great app just read the small print
My partner and I wanted to learn Spanish, we are at different levels but going through the lessons together meant that we helped each other, which was actually fab.....Anyway, life got in the way and we ended up loosing interest, I had signed up to whichever programme that you pay 3 instalments for, once I had paid my last instalment I made sure that I had stopped my subscription.....
Cut to a few months later and I started getting charged again, only to realise that the only way you can cancel Babel is through the settings on the app. Maybe that seems obvious, but as it is a subscription I would have assumed that I would have been able to see pending payments coming out on my Apple ID-not the case.
To me this seems a bit cheeky, as had I have been able to see that-like I can with all other apps where there is a monthly fee-I would have known that I had not fully cancelled my subscription-and as it’s £20 every couple of months, and I thought I had cancelled it 8 months ago.
I emailed Babel and I got a very speedy response which I appreciated.
This review is in no way intended to slate the app, as like I said it is actually really good, it’s just my advice to ensure that if you decide to stop, make sure you get it right the first time!
