Ratings and Reviews
Travel the world and most importantly Sweden
This game is actually pretty good. The developer is almost certainly from Sweden as a lot of the questions are biased toward that country, no matter where you are in the world, but then the answer is probably Swedish themed too. People have complained the questions are too hard? Really? You enter quizzes so you can either improve your knowledge and learn something, or you compete as an adult against 4 year olds to stack the chances of winning in your favour. The fact that they might actually learn some facts about different countries seems to appall them. This is what sets the game apart, questions about other countries and cultures. You don’t have to actually wait a full day, btw, to be able to answer landmark questions, just a game day which is when you have run out of energy.
Brilliant concept, flawed execution
This game could have it all; varied questions and tasks and I’ve really learned a lot about countries I’ve never visited. That said, it can quickly become very frustrating when you need one new job Diploma (which involves asking a series of questions) and game-day after game-day, you’re not offered the ‘job’ you need as an option. Or worse, it’s there as an option and when you click on it, it says “sorry, try again later”. I’m on the verge of giving up on Lima right about now.
The other issue for me (I’m British) isn’t the Swedish bias but the American bias; of ten questions under “currency expert”, even when you’re in a non-American city usually results in nine of them being about which President appears on which sized dollars bill. Or choosing ‘Zoologist’ and you’re asked to identify the State fossil of Idaho! Really!?
I understand that the US is probably the biggest market but have a thought for the other 7.7 billion of us, eh? And try and get the needed jobs to come up a bit more frequently or I’ll have to return to Sudoku.
Good for a while
This looked good, I love geography and general knowledge themed games. However, after a week or so, it became frustrating more than anything. Answering the required questions to proceed seems almost impossible, and the game became a chore. Waiting for “tickets” to even attempt to unlock the sites - questions that even a native would struggle with - became so annoying I deleted the game. I upgraded the guitar, and played every day, but it clearly wants you to purchase tickets to proceed. Even though ads play every few minutes, they are pushy with their upgrade tactics. Shame, as the game itself is well made and the idea is great.
Developer Response ,
Hi hjc009, Thanks for your review and your thoughts about the game!
Backpacker is a Free-2-Play game and it is for sure possible to complete and travel to new cities without having to make any IAP-purchases at all. Our recommendation is to extend the maximum energy and upgrade your guitar. This will make it possible to earn more money and collect more tickets faster.
We will also look over the game-flow and see if we can make improvements to provide a better experience based on your feedback!
Thanks for playing Backpacker!
