Maintain safe social distancing when visiting Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole’s beaches and promenades by viewing crowd congestion levels with this app.
Published by BCP Council, this app enables visitors to make informed choices to avoid crowded areas of the beach. Each section of the coast is coloured red, amber or green depending on how congested that section of the seafront is. At the start of the day the map presents a prediction for how busy the beach is likely to become that day, based on historic data, CCTV, weather and footfall counter data. From mid-morning onwards, the colour coded map is updated hourly by our Seafront Ranger team who patrol the beach.
Links are provided within the app for general information on public toilets at the seafront, cycling, dog exercise areas and BBQ bylaws.
The app also features a feedback function.

Beach hopping safely
I am a mum of 2 young kids. We as a family enjoy beach hopping. On our recent trip to Bournemouth we used this smart app to check for real time congestion on the local beaches and plan our day out. I had extra peace of mind as I was avoiding congested beaches and still able to enjoy the sand and sea..
Scotland to Mudeford it is then!
Excellent news, coming down for the weekend this weekend and now I know for certain which beaches I can go to which will be empty! Otherwise we weren’t going to come! Fantastic!
Will this app achieve it’s goal and help keep social distancing on the beach?
Will the app provided the desired results?
I doubt it. This will only work if the majority of people going to the beach use it and I’m not confident people coming to Bournemouth will have the app.
Annoying you have to get the start splash screens every time you open the app.
The feedback button also doesn’t work - you can’t click submit once you’ve filled in the form.
