Very good, very useful!
I found the Bolt app very useful to use from time to time while I was in Lagos, Nigeria for two months. It was a Godsend. It worked well most of the time. The pick up times were usually good, about 6 - 12 minutes and the drivers were good at locating me. There is an option to call the drivers, so I was also able to give them some guidance when they needed it, since you can track them approaching you on the app.
The drivers were also very friendly, helpful and polite. All the taxis I traveled in were air conditioned, which was very soothing for travel in the sauna which is Lagos.
If you use it for transport to Lagos International Airport I recommend you hail them before you finish packing, as I did find that the longest arrival time of 21 minutes was unfortunately when I needed transport to the Airport. And even if you are not based too far from the Airport, allow for at least an hour travel time, as there is often a hold up on the route to the Airport.
But overall I give the Czech tech firm that produced this app very high marks and thank them for contributing to the ease of travel in Nigeria.
Let me not forget to mention that the fares are also very reasonable, compared to a conventional taxi. It was also easy to cancel without being charged if the ETA was too long.
Do not use this app!!
This app is the biggest scam going, constantly the drivers say they’re busy and then they accept only to cancel on you if they don’t like the journey. They constantly cancel the journey and wait for a surcharge increase for ‘increased demand’ before taking your booking. The drivers are rude and unprofessional, they will wait for you to dismount the vehicle when making a stop and then they will cancel the journey and drive off. I once had a bolt driver tell me on a trip that the only reason he still drives for bolt is because he wants to warn people about the sheer level of scamming there is going on. They are allowed at the end of the trip to tack on any fees they like and bolt won’t refund you or bring the driver up against any disciplinary action because they encourage the drivers to do so claiming that partial refunds are against policy. I’ve asked them numerous times to produce the policy in which it says this and I’ve been ignored because it’s a lie. I’ve had drivers not cancel the journey and wait 10/15 minutes before cancelling so they can charge a wait fee and when you speak to bolt customer service they do absolutely nothing to help. This company literally just wants money, they double charge, offer no refunds, allow the drivers to charge extra with little to no explanation, the drivers are rude the customer service people are rude please just use Uber or Ola!! Don’t use Bolt!
Terrible experience and ripped off
The price for the journey was £21. Drive turned up on time, however, only waited for 1min and he started saying I have to charge you extra I said ok, asked him to pick up a friend too just around the corner. He agreed and I promised him to pay him the extra ( £10) . At tthe drop off, I paid him £10 in cash and he seemed very pleased. To my understanding I thought I would get charged £21 on my receipt as I paid him the extra £10 in cash. However, my receipt showed £29 instead of £21 with wait fee and so on which I couldn’t get my head around. So in fact the journey cost me £39 instead of £21 with a horrendous experience as the driver was unbelievably rude and impatient. I must admit that I have had pleasant experiences with Bolt in Estonia with nice and polite drivers. Bolt should make it easier for customers to be able to contact the customers’ support team by phone if any issues arise as drivers who doesn’t conduct professionally and keep asking for extra or cancellation should be taken responsible for their action and customers should be compensated for inadequate service.
I have tried to complain and ask for answers but no luck.
For me this one time terrible experience is a reason not to use Bolt again unless receive apology and compensation.
