Description

Bookends is the reference management app you've been looking for.

The basic version offers:

• Search online sites directly (arXiv, Google Books, Google Scholar, JSTOR, the Library of Congress, PubMed, PubMed Central, and Semantic Scholar) or use the built-in browser (EZProxy-compliant) to download PDFs and reference metadata (requires access privileges). Searches can return a maximum of 20 references, and only 50 references can be stored in your personal database.
• Use unique identifiers such as DOI, PMID, ISBN, or arXiv id to autofill references.
• See PDF annotation in a note stream, and create your own with our powerful PDF markup engine.
• Barcode scanning, one per day.
• And many more features designed to help you discover, organize, and use reference information.

Standard, one-time purchase ($14.99):

• No limit on searches or importing.

Pro Features Yearly Subscription ($14.99). Requires a Standard purchase.

• Cloud sync with all your iOS devices and Bookends for Mac (separate purchase)
• Share onlnine libraries with colleagues
• Create multiple libraries
• Unlimited barcode scanning
• Extract PDF annotations with deep links to annotations and text
• View PDF notes in a note stream
• Automate your actions

Subscription is for one year and has an auto-renew option. The subscription can be managed in iOS -> Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions. A subscription may renew if it isn't canceled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
If the subscription is not renewed, Pro Features will be disabled but Standard features will continue to work.
No cancellation of the current subscription is allowed during the active subscription period.

What’s New

Version 4.0.1

• Selecting an export reference style is now menu-based, so you no longer need to change it in Settings first.
• Bookends uses a built-in format for exporting to BibTeX. If you need your own version, please obtain and install a BibTeX CSL style.
• Fixed a problem where book cover art was not attached to a reference imported via Quick Add.
• Fixed a crash that could occur the first time a local library was synced with an existing cloud library.
• Fixed a bug when using a CSL style where only the first initial was output when the authors name contained two or more initials in a row.

The best reference management software for Mac & iOS users

This really blows the cross platform competition out of the water, there is no better software out there for this purpose. Using this iOS/iPadOS app together with the desktop Mac app is an incredible duo. PDF annotation is excellent, as it’s ability to link to other apps. This app combo alone makes me glad I’m a Mac user, the windows software and cross platform software out there, is just well behind. The support is very good and very fast to roll out new features and make changes in response to feedback. Don’t hesitate, if you are a student studying or in academia get this iOS app together with the MacOS desktop version. You won’t be disappointed, it’s the best out there - by a long shot!

Wow!!!

I have a university licence for endnote but I’ve long preferred Bookends for macOS. But often I’m without a laptop and I’m in a symposium or talk and want to check a reference or paper. I do always have my iPhone and being able have my full desktop research database synced automatically to my phone and access it anytime is AMAZING! Bookends for iOS is very elegantly and intuitively designed, and the sync is flawless so far. I wish I’d started using it sooner!!! Bookends is by far the best reference manager, and that is true on the desktop and on mobile platforms too! Thank you for such an excellent product.

The best...

I love Bookends - there really is nothing to touch it; everything else is limited or slow or just not being developed/supported. My only criticism - the only one I can think of - is that the left-side listing of references is, in terms of layout, so much poorer than Endnote, which is very good in that respect. But I would never use Endnote because it is so deficient in other ways. Guys at Bookends, how about a lovely UI work-over?
