Not as good as the original app
Having been an Ovo/Boost customer for some time now, I can safely write this review with a high level of confidence in knowing what I am talking about. The original app was awesome. One pot for both electric and gas. Top up was literally selecting the amount and confirming it - done! Also, the app displayed the amount remaining, although this could be out of date by some 12 hours at times. So on to the new app. Well, for a starters you now have individual accounts for electric and gas. Meaning that you have to keep and eye on two accounts now and top up two individual accounts. Not only that, but the app only shows a one-time snapshot of the remaining credit, taken late at night/early in the morning. So to get a better idea of the amounts you have to use a new bit of hardware supplied by Boost and connected to your home WIFI. Topping up is a pain in the jacksy too! No more two button pushes. You select the amount, enter card details (saved if you wish but CCV still needs to be entered), finish the task then check the hardware. This has to be done for BOTH electric and gas individually. All in all I think my 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ are very generous. Given the opportunity, I’d jump straight back to the old way in a heartbeat.
I’ve been with boost for the last 3/4years. The old app version was brilliant. Both electric and gas were combined into one account and it showed an accurate balance every few hours. When you topped up you could see the amount topped up immediately get credited onto the balance and it showed all top ups made online and in shops in the top up history. This new app that they have now created is an utter shambles! I absolutely hate it!!
You now have separate accounts 1 for gas and 1 for electric so you have to keep an eye on both. It only shows the top ups which are made online in top up history and doesn’t show ones made in store. The balances on both accounts are only updated once every 24hours, so you can’t see an accurate balance on accounts! When you top up online you don’t see the amount being credited onto the balance as you did before and can’t see the top ups made in shops anywhere on the accounts.
I can honestly say the people who developed this app should be sacked with immediate effect for inventing such utter rubbish!!!
I just don’t know why on earth they had to interfere with the old app and change it. Fair enough just working to improve the allready great app they previously had but to abolish it and replace with pure rubbish is bonkers! I will be looking elsewhere for a supplier which have an exellent app to accompany their electric and gas supply! I would imagine boost has lost a lot of customers just because of this app change😡
Boost app and in home monitor issues
Same as the previous review this new app is absolutely such an inconvenience and I have same complaint that the app only updates every 24 hours if I am lucky sometimes just recently it hasn’t updated for 4 days which means that when I have topped up with sufficient credit my monitor does not update telling me I’m about to cut off in negative credit and so I have been out of gas for around 7 days in a whole month last month and start of this on and off as I have had to phone them 4 times about having no supply, They are telling me the monitors are now obsolete and the manufacturer does not make them anymore so we won’t be provided with a replacement so now when topping up I have to go straight to my smart gas meter press b 10 times then a and b or the other way round, apparently the signals from monitors to the meters are not working and there are a lot of customers with the same issue and will be off supply, I have been told that engineers are working on this problem that was a few days ago, the old app was a lot better as with this new version you have to write so much in before you top up it’s really not any good at all ! It was never ever like this so I’m giving a 1 star rating and that’s really generous considering all of the hassle I have had recently no hot water and no heating and the issue is not resolved either ! ☹️
