Description

Explore the brain from the palm of your hand! Learn about the structure and function of the human brain by interacting with high-resolution rotatable 3D mesh models in real-time like you've never seen it before!
Brain Tutor 3D uses rendered head and brain models as well as fiber tracts that were created from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans of a study volunteer. The MRI data allows to look "inside" the brain using real-time slicing at millimeter resolution. For students, cognitive neuroscientists, medical professionals and everyone interested in the brain, the program provides information about the anatomy and function of the human brain with various atlases describing and visualizing lobes, gyri, sulci, Brodmann areas, subcortical structures, selected specialized functional areas and major fiber tracts.

With Brain Tutor 3D you can:
* Explore high-resolution 3D models of the head and brain in real-time.
* Visualize major white matter fiber tracts.
* Slice the brain along three axes (sagittal, axial and coronal).
* View MRI brain slices at millimeter resolution.
* Learn from text information about the functions of selected lobes, gyri, sulci, subcortical structures, Brodmann areas, functional areas and fiber tracts.
* Learn where brain structures are located both within 3D brain models as well as in MRI slices.

To get started:
* Tap on a 3D brain model to reveal a brain area at that location.
* Switch to another atlas and a specific brain area or fiber tract using the navigation tables.
* Select a 3D model (brain hemisphere, head) with the tab bar buttons at the bottom.
* Pan with one finger to rotate the brain model scene.
* Pan with two fingers to move the brain model scene.
* Use pinch gesture to zoom a brain model.
* Select the head model to switch to head slicing mode.
* Switch between navigation and slicing mode with two icons on right side in the top bar.
* In head slicing mode, pan with one finger to move the slicing plane.
* Tap on a slicing direction icon in the top bar to switch between three orthogonal slice planes.
* Tap on text icon (iPhone/iPod Touch) or info icons in brain areas/tracts table to view text information about selected brain structure.

What’s New

Version 3.0

Version 3.0 is a major update of Brain Tutor 3D adding a separate 3D Slices View for orthographic slice planes on the left side and a new Tools panel on the right side. The new tools and features provide new functionality:
* You can, for example, start and stop rotation animations by tapping the two lower buttons of the Tools panel.
* Text informatoin is now shown in a floating ROI Description panel that displays explanatory text and connects to the corresponding region that you tapped on a brain model.
* Slicing the head mesh model is now easier and more powerful: You can drag with your fingers over the slice planes on the left side to move the cut planes of the head mesh model on the right side.
* You can also use the available space only for the Meshes View or the 3D Slices view by tapping the left or right pointing chevron-like buttons in the middle of the window (the 3D Slice View is initially visible on iPads but not iPhones).
* Use the advanced panels available from the Tools pane to simultaneously slice in multiple orientations, to navigate the scene with more control, and to change the "shininess" of the brain model.

Tap the User's Guide button in the Tools panel to learn all the details of this powerful new version of Brain Tutor 3D!

Excellent

Beautiful & memorable images. Really useful for understanding brain connectivity and functioning.

Absolutely excellent resource - even for a brain surgeon!

I have downloaded hundreds of applications on the app store yet never left feedback until now...But I felt obliged to leave a 5 star review for this beautiful application (I would leave 7 stars if I could:)

This program provides excellent localization of various cortical brain structures on both a 3D model (which can be rotated) and also MRI scans slices (in all 3 planes). I'm very impressed with the amount of details that has been rendered for a free application - includes all major gyri and sulci and all the broadmann areas. Also contains written descriptions of the sulci, gyri and lobes.... Useful to revise even for a neurosurgical resident like me! Cannot praise it enough...

Perhaps you could bring out a more detailed version with labelled deeper brain structures/blood vessels/nuclei/ventricles etc....wouldn't mind paying for it either... I'm sure neither will many other professionals like myself if the price is not too exorbitant (eg. like the overpriced netter anatomy pictures)... keep up the good work...
