Very Very Useful Indeed but a bit Buggy
As I say above, this app is really very useful indeed. Please note I’m making comments about the App itself and not the level of Service I get from British Gas themselves as this is not the place to discuss this which seems to cause some confusion.
I can do almost anything inside the app. Make payments, adjust my accounts, submit readings check my account balance/history, on line chat + more. However most importantly in my opinion is the ability to quickly and easily book engineer visits in a few taps. I can cancel and rebook etc etc. The App looks a bit dated but pretty easy to use and navigate which is the most important. Who cares if it does look a bit dated (I like a bit of retro anyway) as long as it works. But here’s the rub and the reason for 4 Stars & not 5 it tends to be a bit buggy and it hangs and you have to close and open it which can be frustrating. But overall a big thumbs up. Cheers
Two more visits, still not fixed
Further to my review of March 16th, two more engineers have visited. To reprise the problem, a small condensate leak back in November had resulted in 9 visits, each creating a new problem, until all that remained was to slip the rubber collar over the flue on the outside wall to prevent rain and insects entering the house. Despite making it clear on the 10th visit that a ladder trained engineer was needed, the attending engineer wasn’t the sole ladder trained engineer in the Midlands, so another day spent waiting for the visit was wasted. At last, a van arrived on the our drive with a ladder on its roof.... the flue is above a single storey extension, so it requires a short ladder climb and a short walk across new shallow sloping concrete roof tiles. Alas, the engineer although ladder trained wasn’t trained to cross roof tiles. So, as I understand it, another engineer, the 12th, will visit on April 25th, I have no idea what hell do, but the last engineer suggested fully scaffolding the back of our house to slip the £1.45 rubber ring over the flue. Is it worth me suggesting I employ a plumber and British Gas pay his bill or have them ask the scaffolders to just slip the ring over the flue instead of scaffolding our house?
Don’t try and fix what isn’t broken
Have always had a good experience with this app until recently. I’ve tried three times this morning to pay my bill through it, which I’ve easily done in the past. But every time I put in my card details I’m just left at that screen with no options to continue. Eventually I had to login via my web browser instead and go through the process. One other annoying thing is the constant harassment to upgrade to the new app. I don’t have a smart meter, neither do I intend on getting one based on the bad reports over the years. The new app has also got a bad rating, so why would I want to upgrade to something I don’t need or want? Please stop pushing me to update when the app I’m using works fine, well, use to work fine until this morning. I don’t care how fancy it looks, I just want it to work like it use to do. It was simple, easy to use and I had confidence in it, now I find myself having to log back on to a web page because I don’t trust the app anymore.

The new British Gas Smart app is designed to hopefully correct a lot of the problems the original had so it maybe worth downloading if you're eligible for it.
