PRIVACY AND SECURITY
"Butterfly" tries very hard to look after your data and provide a privacy-focused app. The only information that connects you personally to your account is your email address. If you wish to use a new email address just for dating then please do. This way you can be anonymous.
Pictures are optional and don’t have to include your face. Locations are approximated so they will not reveal the location of your home. Private messages are automatically deleted after 30 days.
DATING
You can download and create a free account on "Butterfly" which will allow you to send "FLUTTER" messages. A VIP subscription may be purchased to allow unrestricted messages both locally and internationally. We offer weekly, monthly, 3 month and 6-month subscriptions. The prices are in local currency and clearly displayed on the VIP upgrade page. Prices are subject to change without notice.

Nice idea, poorly executed
Very difficult to get an idea of what people are like when everything about yours and others’ profiles is determined by a number of pre-set descriptors. You can’t even chose your own name, you have to pick from a list of names generated by what you typed in? And if yours isn’t there the app advises to just pick ‘one that’s similar’? This is a bit awkward for nonbinary/trans people, like myself, who have unusual names. For example my name ended up being Buğlem of all things.
Also the options for interests are very limited, and causes pretty much everyone’s profiles to blend together. I have no idea what anyone’s personalities are, or what their interests are outside of the very basic options provided.
Finally, perhaps the worst thing is that your preferences don’t actually seem to have any bearing on the profiles that appear in searches, or who your own profile is visible to. After less than a minute of being on the app I got 6 chat notifs from cis men twice my age, which was NOT what I was looking for.
It’s a shame because dating apps for trans people that don’t cater to chasers are so rare, and I really wanted to like this app because of that. Things online had largely positive things to say about it, so I was kind of disappointed by the reality.

Hi, your feedback is good and correct.
Names: We have a list to stop abuse but you can contact us and we will add a new name to the system for all to use or edit yours directly.
Profiles: They don't allow free form text, again due to abuse. Also people tend to leave them blank or fill them with junk. Our system may not seem ideal but it ensures everyone has the basic information you need to start a conversation.
Preference code as been changed. Search will no longer show someone who is not compatible. There is also a new SETTINGS > ADVANCED menu to turn off introduction messages.

Won’t even let me use my name
I’m really sad that I went through all the trouble of legally changing my name and this app won’t even let me use it

We have a database of names to stop user abuse but we will also add any name to the database for people to use.
Excellent app for making new friends
This is a very easy to use app with a simple interface. I am addicted to sending a butterfly to new friends;) It is getting more and more crowded everyday! It feels like a great place to be to meet with new friends.
