What’s New

Version 7.3.1

• Haptic Touch EXIF Preview (NEW)
So you just captured a shot, but you want to quickly double-check on the basic settings? Now you can when you Haptic Touch on the last photo button. You get a preview of the shot as usual, but now you get a strip at the bottom with the basic EXIF metadata information. This contains — focal length, aperture, ISO, exposure duration, and most importantly, the image format.

You can simply use Haptic Touch to preview this information and touch-up to make it go away. Also, this new EXIF strip fades away and gets out of the way after a few seconds.

This is also possible from the Camera M photo library grid screen with any photo or video. Please remember that this is just a summary, for a full representation of EXIF metadata, you can always open the photo and view our full representation of EXIF at any time.

Of course, with every new update or implementation of a function on Camera M, accessibility is a huge focus for us. So this new EXIF metadata strip is compatible with Dark and Light modes, Dynamic Type, Reduce Transparency and other accessibility settings on your device.

These small quality-of-life type of improvements are the implementations we are very proud of working on. We would love to hear your thoughts.

• Depth Blur Preview
We took out the depth blur preview a few years ago due to performance issues — now it is back! We worked on it to make it better, and to use less energy. You will see the ‘Depth Preview’ setting is back to opt-out from this function if needed.

• Bug Fixes
Fixed the issue where volume button actions would not work in certain landscape orientations. Made performance improvements to the Highlight & Shadow Alert filter and Focus Peaking filter.

Please check www.camera-m.com/updates for more comprehensive details on this update.

We are truly a small, two-person, developer team without a huge advertising budget; Therefore, if you love Camera M, please free to spread the word and it would mean a lot to us!

We hope you capture incredible photos with Camera M!

Edge buttons unresponsive

Not sure what happens, but after a while leftmost and rightmost buttons on the settings strip right below the viewfinder become completely unresponsive until the app is reloaded. Otherwise would be the most intuitive and friendly middle ground between very complicated and very simple manual apps.
But while I can live with unresponsive histo button, unresponsive reset to auto is kind of a deal-breaker.

Developer Response ,

Thank you, nezlobnyj, for your review. We are sorry to hear about your issue. Since this is the first time we are hearing about this, please consider emailing us with some more details. This way we can have an update with the first as soon as possible - contact@camera-m.com

Beautiful app but not for single handed use in manual mode

Hey Team,
I had a good time exploring the app. Things seem to be arranged in good places, and the UI makes general sense. I also appreciate that you have opted for the single-purchase business model. The widget thing is a great idea as it means i can start up your app from the lockscreen, straight into the lens I would like to use. However, the app is missing two key elements which I wish it had, and so keeps me from making it be my go-to app.
- The first: true single handed operation in landscape mode whilst in full manual. I like to hold my 12pro like I hold my A7 - left hand for support, right hand to control the camera. This is really good for stability. However when doing so, adjusting either the iso or the shutter speed is quite a stretch as the shutter slider is on the viewfinder, way off the “control center”. Forget about adjusting ISO, that’s way on the other side of the screen. There is so much wasted space on that control center, would it not be possible to make better use of that? I can think of a million ways it can be done better.
- The second: why can’t i shoot photos with exposures longer than one second? I know avfoundation doesn’t support that, but this is what night mode is for.

- a fellow app developer.

Developer Response ,

R kopiec, thank you for your insightful review!
You bring up a good point regarding ISO and Exposure Duration Screen. Controlling ISO and exposure duration manually with both hands indeed creates a much better experience. However, you still can control both aspects single-handedly. The touch/drag area for each is only separated in the middle of the screen. Even with a Plus/Max phone, it is still comfortably possible. We keep the control center as a common area while each manual control aspect appears on the preview screen so they can disappear when not needed.

Regarding long exposure, the amazing Night Mode from the native camera app is not available for developers (yet). Any exposure longer than 1 second requires the fusion of multiple frames, which reduces the image quality greatly. We are currently testing on that area to put out something new and improved compared to other camera apps.

AndyDurham10 ,

It’s okay. A number of issues.

I don’t like the way it handles burst mode. When I use the Apple iOS stock camera app and take burst photos they show up as one photo containing many. I can press “select” in the iOS camera album and select only the ones I want to keep. I cannot do that on this app. It saves every burst picture as a separate photo. So It’s very cumbersome. And it struggles to focus in poor light, where the Apple stock photo app easily focuses. I’m not sure why this is. I’m thinking of getting a refund because to me it’s not worth £7.99. A shame. I love the layout, but unless these things are ironed out then it’s not for me.

Developer Response ,

Hello AndyDurham10, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear about your experience with the Burst mode. Unfortunately, as 3rd party developers, we do not have access to save the burst photos into a pile as the native camera app does. As for focusing, Camera M uses the same focusing mechanism as the native camera app. Do you notice auto-focus issues during manual exposure? If so, please note that, during long exposure durations (slow shutter speeds), camera feed slows down. This may cause focusing to be slower. You would not notice this in the native camera app due to not having a manual exposure mode with long exposure durations. Please feel free to contact us with more feedback - contact@camera-m.com. If you believe Camera-M is not for you, you definitely have the ability to ask for a full refund from Apple. Please let us know if you need assistance with that as well.
