Your heart rate provides insight into how efficiently you’re training and gives you a way to quantify improvements. With zone training, you can yield different benefits and are appropriate at different times during a training plan, whether that is weight loss or improved cardiovascular performance.
Zone training gives you focus. Measuring your heart rate and keeping within your zones can help you from overtraining. Overtraining can lead to exercise addiction which can lead to negative physiological and psychological effects, constant muscle soreness, elevated resting heart rate, burnout, reduced variability, elevated blood pressure, lack of appetite, and even becoming moody.
To get the best out of the app you need a heart rate sensor that conforms to the Bluetooth 4 Heart Rate Service (HRS) like the Polar H7 Smart, Wahoo TICKR, Bose Soudsport Pulse, etc.
You don’t have a heart sensor:
The following functions are available if you don’t have a bluetooth heart sensor or Apple Watch:
- Calculate your VO2 Max doing a 1½ mile run.
- Calculate your Maximum heart rate.
- Get optimal heart zones depending on your fitness goals (fat burn, cardio, et.c).
- References and reading material on how heart rate zones are used in fitness & sports sciences.
Data Privacy:
- Your data remain private in your iOS Device or iCloud Account. You are in control over who views or uses your data.
- This app works seamlessly with Apple Health
- You do not need any annoying login accounts.
- All data is stored on your iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch, and no data is on any external database on the internet or worldwide web.
Battery:
- Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
- Continued use of the Apple Watch heart rate sensor can dramatically decrease battery life.
- Viewing your heart rate in Graph mode will impact your battery life when the App is automatically (the icon with the wheel at the top) adjusting the XY-Axis. Tap on the wheel/settings icon at the top to switch to manual mode to conserve battery life and reduce the graphics power processing requirements.

Ratings and Reviews
Does this app ever connect with the apple watch????
I have had this app for about 2 weeks, it's proved to be absolutely useless to me, has ever connected to my watch once(followed your guide on Twitter tried it again but no joy)..does not relay any vo2 max data (which was the reason I paid for it). Tried using it for a work out and it kept ending the work out even though I was still working out... I am disappointed. Please fix this or at the least keep us updated via your twitter feed. 😡😡😡
Developer Response ,
If you contact me on twitter I can help you better. Once you have completed the setup from your iPhone, you should be able to see estimated VO2Max for yourself. To get more accurate VO2Max estimates you need to perform one of the VO2Max exercises from your iPhone (with a bluetooth Heart sensor) or from your Apple Watch. If you using an Apple Watch there is no need to have your iPhone connected to your Apple Watch as the Watch works independent from the iPhone, unless you need to transfer workout data from the Apple Watch to your Phone. To get the status saying connected follow help on http://www.tgs.me.uk/apps/hra/
The app will end the workout if the heart rate sensor is "dead" or has not sent a heart rate for a while. This can happen if a bluetooth sensor has disconnected or in the case of an Apple Watch if the sensor can not measure a pulse. You can change this behaviour by going to Settings on the iPhone and disable the "Auto end workout" in the "Sensor Settings" section or increase the "Timeout" length.
Annoying
The resting VO2 test only work one time with Apple Watch - needs debugging
Developer Response ,
There is no resting VO2Max test available on the Apple Watch. The Resting Heart Rate test is only available on an iOS device (iPhone and iPad). All other VO2Max (Running, Walking and Stepper) tests are on both the Apple Watch and iOS devices. There is no limit on the number of times you can use any VO2Max Test. On an iOS device you can tap the back button at the top-left to go back to the instructions and then you can tap start at the bottom to begin a new VO2Max test; or while in a VO2Max test, tap the circular-icon on the top-right to restart the test. On an Apple Watch force-touch on the screen to cancel the test, you be taken back to workout view, then swipe left to go to the VO2Max Tests where you can start a fresh VO2Max Test. When using any VO2Max test from an iOS device, you will need a bluetooth heart rate sensor
