Catalyst Black 9+

It’s a decent PvP top down joystick team shooter, where you can drop in and out at any time and teams get automatically rebalanced, which is great, never worry about AFKs.

It’s a bit repetitive though and the loudout doesn’t really lead to too much variety in gameplay or strategy. If you play F2P then it will take a longer time before you can really experiment with different weapon types and find the play style you like, but even then, for me at least, the game play is not too varied. Essentially it’s: shoot down the enemy, capture the objective. Level up to do the same thing easier.

I was playing SEMC’s first game, which had more addictive and varied game play, but big matchmaking, player retention and AFK problems. At least the AFK issue is here solved by design, let’s see how the devs develop the game play. Currently I would say this game is an OK pickup some time to have some mobile gameplay fun, but won’t keep you engaged for hours, or won’t make you want to check in and play every day.

Has some fun modes where you can go for kills, some paying players have some OP killing power, but in the tanked game you can usually change playing style and go for capturing the fortress, or the collecting the crystals, or following a strong player on your team to support them with heals or extra firepower to turn the tide.
I was sceptical when I played some of the early testing, and just went back to playing SEMC’s Vainglory, as I missed the more intense gameplay.
I don’t feel I’ve been playing the game too long, but I am far above the top rank in Eventide, so hope higher rankings can be given! I remember the grind and feelings rewarded to get to vainglorious in their last game! I guess I miss the risk vs reward going into top level battles in the last game, where here if I loose a few matches, I don’t think I would ever drop below the top current rank. That said it is the nice balanced gameplay that is bringing me back and what also kept me playing Vainglory.

I would consider myself a veteran of Super Evil Megacorp games as I played Vainglory since its initial release. I was rather skeptical about this game at first but after having played it I would definitely recommend it to everyone. The gameplay is pretty fluid and well designed, HOWEVER certain aspects of the game such as the progression system seem rather unpolished. Having said that these are issues which can definitely be ironed out so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
