Nice app design but not a replacement for the music app
I purchased this app as a replacement for the now totally ruined Apple Music app - which I would be quite happy to never use again.
Sadly this app doesn’t allow playlist creation or editing citing technical reasons with syncing with iTunes - personally I think iTunes is aweful (I very rarely use the sync) and would be quite happy if this app just did its own playlist thing, but I’m left slightly lighter in pocket and still no better off.
It’s a shame this app also doesn’t address the gap left my the now missing Apple Genius function - I’ve a large music library and would like a way to help me rediscover tracks I’ve forgotten about, some form of search for rarely played files or perhaps picking random tracks from the same genre I’m listening to would be really useful.
So, a nice player app but sadly not the solution that allows me to relegate to Apple app to help bin.
Update: I asked, he delivered - 5 stars and now my favourite, most heavily utilised app on iPhone. Support for X, no more buggy delay when changing song (which I’m aware was an Apple fault anyway) and a proper search - what more could a man want?
Please please please allow me a Search icon again! Scrolling up to access search probably sounded good in your developer’s head but it is significantly more of a hassle than when there was a standalone icon. Example 1: I am scrolling through my songs beginning with P and realise I can’t quite remember what the song was called - to access search, I now need to either scroll all the way back to the top or select songs staring with A and then scroll up. Example 2: I am looking through artists and suddenly want to search for a specific song - I now need to switch to Songs first as it will only search Artist names.
Second lack of capability: no memory of terms searched. I can’t begin to tell you how often I used this feature, one that is core to the Apple app experience. The most annoying thing about all of this is the fact that the icons for turning cloud songs on/off and reordering songs Z-A have such unnecessarily prominent positions on the UI.
The whole ethos of Cesium ought to be simplicity. Because of this one change, my music app usage has gone from 15% Apple 85% Cesium to 40% Apple 60% Cesium.
A return to the golden age of Apple’s iOS design
Absolutely love this app and would highly recommend to anyone who still uses their local library. As someone who’s always listened to a lot of music not available on the UK iTunes store/streaming platforms, local files are the only way to listen to the music I love and this app is the only way to enjoy it without the current clunky, ugly design Apple’s Music app has.
One addition I’d love is the option to turn on a player colour function that picks out the dominant cover from the album artwork of the song playing (I loved how that looked previously on both the app and desktop version of iTunes; so aesthetically pleasing).
Also, if there were to be an option to play locally downloaded music videos inside the app too (or perhaps even in a separate app) that would be another great addition!
