It works and it works well
i’ve tried another App for Mac which sort of worked but was pretty unsatisfactory. However with the lockdown I’ve been using whatsapp so much more that I thought I’d try a different version for the Mac… I scanned the web and Chatmate ticked all the boxes and-some for me.
Now with the lockdown it’s come into its own, I’m even taking my adult education Calligraphy class with it - 9 of us plus tutor (normally in local library); we use it for sending our work to her for evaluation during the lesson, and she can send us examples, diagrams etc. When someone txts you get an audible alert, which is useful because when you’re as dedicated and able as I am, (ummm... well, I admit it; little bit of a porkie there) you can all chat about a particular problem or subject together. We’re not using the VIDEO chat much because the messaging works really well for us, but I did video call my tutor during our lesson this week and she added someone else who had a similar problem to me, and it all worked really well.
It’s a no brainer. (Be advised you do need to have your mobile near you while using the Mac App)
Briiiantly useful app - but please stop its update moaning
This is so great - it does exactly what you want and is SO much better for those of us who want to type on a real keyboard, not slowly on a phone. The display of photos and videos is great - family (or whoever) send stuff and it looks terrific. I find all the day-to-day functionality superb.
What I do NOT like is its constant moaning to be updated. It doesn’t need updating - it’s on the current version. Trying to “update” it does nothing usefiul and might just freeze if up for a while. I’ve tried deleting and reinstalling - no good.
If you Google it you will find lots of people complaining about this issue. Is is really so hard to fix? At the moment it is (/was??) making a great app annoying to use: can the developers fix it, soon, please? Thank you. UPDATE - I think the update moaning may have stopped. I am now on v 4.3.1. I will comment further when I am sure,
Well worth the £3
I've been using this for literally 5 minutes and I love it already.
Now that we're screen sharing all the time I'd rather not have my personal WhatsApp showing up on Teams calls - this app allows me to disable system notifications but keep a menu bar icon notification. Handy and subtle. Also it locks WhatsApp after a minute so when I go onto screen sharing and accidentally into the app, it won't show any messages until I do Touch ID.
For those two alone I would pay but this has loads more features. Great app.
