Cricket Captain 2020 is the perfect companion if you are missing live matches, as the hugely anticipated season is disrupted. With the incredibly exciting 2019 World Cup and the fiercely fought Australia tour of England, a legion of fans have been attracted to the sport. The inaugural 100 ball competition promised to provide great entertainment for those new converts, and the first test-match championship was well under way. After canvassing our players, we have decided to create the 2020 season as it was originally intended, in all its glory.
Rain delays in one-day and 20 over matches have been introduced, including the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern system to calculate run-chase targets. There are also extensive additions to the database, including additional season by season player records.

The new 100 ball competition in England has been added, including updates to the match engine, AI and stats systems to accommodate the new format. Updates to domestic systems around the world have also been incorporated, including major changes to the competitions in Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan and India. Captains will also be able to switch between domestic teams in different countries for the first time.

Cricket Captain 2020 also features a full database update (over 7,000 players, including every historical international player), with improved player ability generation, using data from every form of cricket and with input from a team of researchers around the world. The database provides the attention to detail that the series is famed for.

Ok but not improved in 4/5 generations, not worth the money

Been playing cricket captain since the 2006 edition with KP on the front but things have only marginally improved since then- it makes you wonder where the cash is going when you see free games with a bit less depth to the game engine but 10x times better graphics and 5x the improvement rate between versions

The improvements made to the engine in that time can barely be classed as incremental. Adding one other nations in besides england/Aus etc per year and I'm struggling to see what been done for 7/8 of those years of the 15 since I started playing the game. It’s not like it’s deadly accurate, get to the MCCUs in the UK and the accuracy is gone. The tactics have slightly changed but still marginally resemble what happens on a cricket field and there has been the odd change to how you can train, that’s it!

If compare a screenshot of the original game 06 game I played next to this one and you’d have to look closely for improvements. Not asking for 4k graphic but perhaps something that looks a little less like it’s being played on PS1.

Have kept paying to this point each year in support of a game I’ve enjoyed for years, hoping to see some improvements but am always disappointed and it’s worth paying anymore.

Waste of money

Having written a critical review of the 19 version, and not bothering to pay for it, I stupidly decided that a year on things must have improved and wasted £8.99. If they have improved, all I can say is that apart from updated stats, it’s very difficult to tell. Compared to many other sports simulation games in the AppStore the graphical animation of batting and fielding is truly atrocious. In fact the developers have done absolutely nothing obvious to improve this from that of the first version and are simply milking a gullible customer base. The batsmen’s shots, the fielding, run outs, appeals, wicket celebrations are horrendous. The gameplay AI (more like AS - artificial stupidity) is terrible and do not provide anything close to the atmosphere of a real game. Playing at easy level, any games are almost impossible to win. Even if your side has plenty of wickets in hand, and your batter’s aggression is set high, in a run chase there is more likely to be a series of maiden overs. It’s taken me a day to realise the game is a waste of time. I won’t make the same mistake again!

Your tactics make no difference

Sadly, the game engine seems to take no account of your tactics and selection - the way a match pans out is seemingly pre-determined. I played the same t20 game 25 times, and no matter what I did, the result was the same, with very similar scores each time. My opponent invariably made between 165 and 180, even after being 50-6 in one game, and I was invariably all out around 120, nearly always after losing 4 quick wickets. Very disappointing - the game engine seems to have gone backwards.
