Wizards of the Coast and Playdek present the award-winning Dungeons & Dragons board game Lords of Waterdeep!

Also available: The award-winning Dungeons & Dragons® expansions for Lords of Waterdeep – Scoundrels of Skullport and Undermountain!

Welcome to Waterdeep, the City of Splendors! A city run by a secret society of masked Lords who rule with shady back-door dealings and unmatched political power. In Lords of Waterdeep players will play as one of these masked Lords and will need to recruit adventurers to go out and complete quests for them. The more quests they complete, the more control and influence they have over the city.

Players can expand the city by purchasing buildings that will open up new opportunities within the city walls. Intrigue cards can be used to help the player and may also either help or hinder their fellow Lords in their quest to become the supreme ruler of Waterdeep!

Lords of Waterdeep is a turn-based strategy game played in 8 rounds and can be played against AI or with up to 5 human players. Players take turns assigning their agents to do their bidding, whether it is to recruit new adventurers to their tavern or purchase a new building for the city. Points and resources are gained by completing quests, playing Intrigue cards, constructing new buildings or having other players utilize the buildings you have constructed. At the end of the 8 rounds bonus points are awarded and the player with the most points at the end wins the game.

Fun, fairly easy to learn board game with depth.

For a game with some depth this is a relatively easy game to learn and a fairly simple concept which I like.
The fantasy theme is really just an excuse to have some nice illustrations and text which is fair enough but anyone who is expecting an adventure type game might be disappointed. It’s really about collecting coloured cubes to complete the requirements of the cards that you pick up in the course of the game.
It’s quite tactical and over time and from searching online I’ve developed some good strategies. It’s satisfying to see my scores improve however, no matter how much my score improves by even the “Simple” AI always beats me by about fifty points so I have never actually come close to winning a game. Still, it is fun and I keep going back to try out new strategies. I’m sure if I am ever able to beat the AI then I’ll feel the need to splash out on the expansions too.

Just won my first game an hour or so after posting the above review. Very satisfying.

ONE LAST FAVOUR

This has to be the most enjoyable games on the store.
Thank you for updating to work on 64bit and the continued support to those who have purchased both this and the IAPs as well, which add so much more depth to the game.
Whilst the game is deserving of 5 stars, the issue with landscape mode, whilst not an issue on iPad, can be frustrating on iPhones and being able to manually switch between iPhone (portrait) and iPad (landscape) would be appreciated. Understand that this would mean additional patching, but if you considered this then you would have a happy player base.
Thanks PlayDek

New version is awful

I'm sure if someone hasn't played the board game or the previous versions of the app. The board game is still one of my favourites which I recommend often and the previous app versions were a great interpretation of that. I can only assume the terrible landscape interface is to match the new Steam version? It's almost like good modern UIs are responsive and reflect the device being used instead of one size fits all.

We had a play group which were playing a lot of games frequently, and everyone just let them end and didn’t restart them once the UI change came in. We recently started a game again to see if it was just initial hostility to change but the landscape mode of this app has just killed it.

The board game was designed in portrait mode and the app used to adapt that and it worked. Trying to squeeze a portrait layout into a landscape layout doesn’t work.

The developers need to face facts, if they want this game to get the appreciation and playtime it deserves they need to either return it to portrait mode, or re-layout the board so its in a landscape orientation. But then they got my money for it when the app was good so they probably don’t care if I don’t play it anymore.
