Good now working

Firstly I’m actually a shareholder of Dabbl, so it’s possible I have a small bias. I did have a few fairly serious problems with the app originally, which led me to leave a 2 star review.

However, I was later contacted by Dabbl they managed to fix the issue very quickly on their side once they’d realised there was an issue (unfortunately a couple of months after they explained it was an iOS issue). The actual app itself is now working perfectly, no update required.

One star away for the initial irritation, but can’t fault the value of the subscription and dealing costs. Well worth exploring as an alternative to monthly share dealing options, or for small cheap trades.

So pleased your issue was resolved quickly and you were satisfied. Great to hear.
Hope you are still enjoying your free trades on dabbl.

Promising start

This app is a promising start. I hope it does well, but it’s got a bit of a way to go yet.

The main gap is that there doesn’t seem to be an ISA or SIPP account (I’ve read that these are coming). Unless you really just want to dabble on the stock market you’d probably be better paying into a pension fund, or setting up a stock and shares ISA.

The charges for the cheap-and-cheerful basic trades are competitive, and the idea of batching trades together to keep the costs down is a good one, but bear in mind that the prices can go up and down during the day - so you could end up paying 1 or 2 percent more (or less) than you expected.

You should also definitely do your own research. The ‘news’ seems to be a couple of weeks old. The Company Profile is really minimal and I’m not at all sure how reliable the ‘sentiment’ tab is. The ‘health’ tab gives an assessment of the company, but it’s too brief to be useful - I think you’d be better off looking on somewhere like Motley Fool. The ‘discover’ tab is a nice idea, but the result is a confused and confusing hodge-podge.

Thank you for review. Great to hear you are enjoying the app as it stands.
We have ISA's launching this year so you will be able to start saving and investing through these on dabbl.
We have a dabbl blog for quick reference information on companies and weekly killer stats to help orientate you with investing. However using other resources is always a good call.
We have recently updated the Discover section so we hope to have addressed your confusion.
Thanks and keep us posted

Needs work...

Was eager to try this app out as there’s been a fair bit of buzz around Dabbl, Revolut and Freetrade of late and I’ve been looking for a compelling reason to say tataa to IG.

Well first impressions are underwhelming and I have to say I’m a bit disappointed in the product. Being able to take a picture of an object and then give you the option to buy shares in the company that produced it sounds pretty cool, but in practice it’s really just a gimmick. I want a solid app, that’s intuitive, stable and compelling.

At the moment this just feels very unfinished. On an iPhone 7, the interface is slightly skewed with icons overlapping text. There’s also no possibility to fund with debit card which is a real thumbs down.

And the fees really aren’t so different to IG. If I want to trade in real time I have to pay not too far off what IG are charging, and to use an inferior product with less useful features. I can access lower fees by subscribing via an in app purchase but the ‘benefit’ just doesn’t seem to me to outweigh the costs and inconvenience of ditching IG. I’m eager to see what revolut and Freetrade bring to the party, and maybe dabbl once more when they’ve figured out what they want to be...

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your comments on our app. Since you left your review we have updated our app with a new user interface which we hope you like.
We have tried to make our charging as clear as possible with subscribers receiving 3 free dabbl Later trades per month and then £1 per dabbl Later trade after this. If you want to trade from an instant quote then subscribers pay £5 for a UK trade and £8 for a non-UK trade.
Whilst the pricing is an important part of the proposition, dabbl's aim is to get more people investing in the products and brands they know and love. Rather than simply providing a list of companies, we encourage users to think about products and brands to which they have some affinity and the app works out who the parent company is.
We have lots of exciting ideas for engaging users further with those products and brands so that investing isn't just about buying and selling faceless companies, but about getting involved with those in which you have a much better understanding.
