The iPhone's built in microphone is sensitive from 0 to approximately 110 decibels.

I'm fairly sure that this app indicates dB, and not dB(A).
The 'A' weighting filter would show much lower levels in most situations.

I have the free version of the app. which I'm happy to recommend. Very Good app. Obviously as its uncalibrated can't be sure of its absolute accuracy as some have complained about but for a free app. it does everything I could of hoped for. Use it for volume comparison with my hi fi.

Yes, a quiet environment shows around the mid 40's, but tested our washing machine and other household items to good effect, and showed constant results.....on my iPad.
