Impressive app

Great app for those who want a standalone music player. Doesn’t crash, straightforward and good looking UI.
Unlike many others it seems to use its own playback mechanism rather than piggy backing on Apple, which means that when Apple breaks gapless playback (which they have done regularly!) this still works. If that’s important to you too then worth trying this.
Couple of little niggles:
- My compilation albums which have different years or publishers of different tracks were strangely split out into different albums which was annoying and meant I had to retag
- No CarPlay support so I have to have the whole music library on my phone twice, once for this app and once in the normal way to access in the car.
But overall really impressive.

Pretentious gatekeeping rubbish.

There are no benefits to this app. The idea in the beginning wasn’t even what people look for. It totally goes against what we know music as nowadays. People stream. Get with it or get out. Music evolves and so does the way we listen to it. The description is the most pretentious gatekeeping attempt I have seen in a while. Totally removing the majority of music listeners from the user base, and going out of your way to prove that your app is the best because you don’t allow streamers?

And that’s before you even download the app. The user is expected to download (Or dare I say stream) to their device via FTP or through the web. I download my music to iTunes and then expect my new music player to at the very least sync libraries. You cannot listen to this streamed music offline, which was the whole point of downloading.

FTP is also quite a big security risk blah blah blah you should already know this but my point is not to go in the way of file transfer but the way that it syncs through an FTP client instead of iTunes which has much better support and is optimised for Apple devices.

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your feedback! I’m sorry to hear that Decoupled didn’t fit your needs.

The usual workflow is to use iTunes or AirDrop to sync music into the app. The FTP and WebDAV options are made for scenarios when these are not available, e.g. using the GNU/Linux operating system, which is not supported by iTunes. The FTP and WebDAV services don’t pose security risk because they are to be used only intermittently when syncing music, and within your local network, not over the internet.

You must also understand that Decoupled was made for a highly specific audience with certain music consumption habits in mind. If you prefer streaming applications, then unfortunately Decoupled is not for you, but there are plenty of streaming applications on the market.

Awesome minimal music player

This is a great little app. I love the minimalism, it plays whatever files you chuck at it, and then stays out of your way. The antidote to the default bloated Apple Music app.
