Description

Diagrams is a diagram editor for Mac that helps you increase the understanding of your structures and processes through visualization. Its approachable design, clean interface, crisp visual style, and streamlined canvas interactions allow you to produce beautiful diagrams and integrate them into your workflows in no time.

“Diagrams is extremely straightforward in what it aims to do, so you don’t have to spend time trying to understand how the app works.”
— Filipe Espósito, 9to5Mac

“Diagrams is a great app for creating flowchart-style diagrams. It’s Mac-native, and it shows. It conforms to all of the guidelines for a well-designed Mac app.”
— John Voorhees, MacStories

HOW IT WORKS

Interactive Canvas — Create diagrams on the canvas, the key area of the app, through direct manipulation of diagram objects. The canvas is fully interactive and employs powerful layout features that help streamline your workflows.

Elements & Relationships — Unlike generic vector graphics tools, Diagrams is specifically optimized for structured diagrams consisting of elements and relationships. By leveraging these core building blocks, you’ll create diagrams more quickly with no fiddling around.

Types — Each element and relationship is associated with a type that defines its meaning and its visual style. Utilize reusable types to make your diagrams more consistent and comprehensive.

Palettes — A palette is a collection of types attached to each new diagram. You can pick from built-in presets, customize existing palettes, or craft personalized palettes that contain only the types you need for your particular use cases.

The app encourages you to assign meaning to types, but you can decide to which extent you want to embrace it. Opt for the universal palette without any particular semantics, or make use of your very specific palette — or something in between.

Thumbs up!

Overall really happy with this app. It is simple and straightforward which makes it a great tool for those who are in a hurry i.e. staff meeting in the next five minutes. However, I desperatly wish there were more colours available. Some additional intuitive shortcuts, such as automatically adding an element if you drag an arrow from a first element, would be great. An integrated legend option would be a definite plus as well.

Your review made our day! It’s great to hear that Diagrams is a great companion in your day-to-day work. Also, thanks for your feature requests! All three of them are already on our list, and we’ve +1’d them on your behalf. However, I can’t share any details or schedule. The only hint I can give is that we’re currently actively looking into the topic of colors. Stay tuned for future releases! –Lukas

What an Excellent Start

What a great product. I have been looking for a good quality, relatively simple flow charting and process mapping tool for quite some time. This is a very stable and usable tool with a number of unique features that make it very quick and easy to construct a diagram. This product is ideal for prototyping and simple project requirements.

As this is a version 1.0 product, hopefully in the future the team at Structured Path will add additional features.
I wold like to see the following features added to future releases:
More shapes
Ability to have more colours for shapes
Shape categories (Flow charting, process mapping, sequence diagrams, etc)
More snap and glue options
Font support or at least the option to Bold or Italic text
The ability to label shapes with sequence numbers or counters (small text in the top left of a shape to denote its ID in a process)
Smooth zoom options with pinch on track pad
Bounding boxes for grouping shapes. Obviously the bounding box must have the ability to display text.
Free floating text and again this would require more font control
Shape Notes. The ability to give a shape some explanatory notes.
Text position - top, middle, bottom and left, centre and right.

Sorry about the length of that list but once I started I got into a bit of a flow!

Hi! Thank you for your detailed feedback. It’s great to hear that you enjoy using Diagrams.
Yes, our plan is to add more flexibility for designing diagrams. We don’t have an exact schedule for this functionality but keep an eye out for updates.

We read every review. It helps us prioritize our roadmap, so the more detailed it is, the better.

A Nice Start

This is a nice Mac app that's easy to get started with and use. I've been using it for a few weeks to create diagrams at work (software developer) and have found it useful. Saying that, Diagrams definitely has limitations in its current version. I think that once diagrams start to get moderately complex, you quickly run into limitations that make it hard to keep the diagrams readable.

The developers appear to be active in responding to feedback on Twitter, so I have confidence that the app will gain more features over time, but it's still something to consider.

A couple of things that I've wanted when using it in the past few weeks:

- Alignment guides and distribution options for shapes.
- More colours for shapes.
- Free floating text.
- Curvy lines, diagrams can quickly get hard to read when lines are straight and
limited to 4 connection points.
- Line crossing styles.

And one super nitpicky thing but a mouse keyboard shortcut to add a new shape (like CMD Left Click) would be amazing. The current double click shortcut can be tiresome with RSI.
