I use this app to dictate my daily diary and it generally works well. (1) It does struggle with unfamiliar words and it would be useful if there was a facility whereby you could say a codeword and then spell out the new word and have it added automatically to a dictionary. I have tried adding special words to the dictionary manually, but it doesn’t make any difference. also specific spellings aren’t remembered Lucy versus Lucie for example. (2) something weird happens when you’re manually typing – you can’t scroll to the bottom of the screen properly so you can’t see what you’re typing, and if you move the cursor up a paragraph you then can’t move it back down again and you cannot continue typing anymore.

I have tried a number of these dictation apps, and ‘Dictate’ is one of the better ones. If you want a simple, straightforward, and easy to use, piece of software to do the job without all the bells and whistles, then this is for you. Press the record button, speak and your words magically appear on the screen. Edit final text, then save and export. Job done! I would have given it 5 stars, however the UI is a bit basic, and I would have liked to see a list of all my previous dictated pieces, edited or otherwise, to be listed in the App itself for quick and easy access. Other than that, a great piece of kit.
