Description
This application for iPhone or iPod Touch makes it easy to consult the online French dictionary TLFi from the “Centre National de Ressources Textuelles et Lexicales” (http://www.cnrtl.fr/).
It is possible to view the definition, the etymology, the synonymy or the antonymy of a word.
The TLFi (Trésor de la langue française informatisé) comes from a dictionary in sixteen paper volumes which contains 270 000 definitions and 430 000 examples.
Other features:
• Search for a word via spotlight
• View a definition from another app: select a word and tap "share…".

Old favourite takes another step forward
The Trésor has been an old favourite of French teachers in Britain for many years because of its very English historical approach to etymology in French. I use the web version from ATILF in Nancy with university students and so to have it on iPhone is a great step forward. We are lucky to be in range of WiFi on the campus at Plymouth University. However, a fully off-line version would be most welcome along with a single click to IPA and spoken pronunciation.

Excellent resource
This really is the best French dictionary available for iPad. It does require an Internet connection which can sometimes be frustrating but it's unbeatable in terms of its comprehensiveness.
