There are a whole host of people moaning about the price of this article, but rarely anyone putting something about the content to help people actually make a decision about this mag.I downloaded the free sampler version and was pleasantly surprised to get a whole edition, many other mag's samples are just one article or two.The content was great, and it was a pleasure to read. As someone virtually brand new to photography I can't compare to the paper edition, but I found this very inspiring.I just found it a shame that the full potential of an iPad was not used to add more interactive material to the articles, such as video guides, which could go a long way to soothing the "costs the same as paper without the gifts" complaints The main reason I think that stands out though, is for a new photographer using this mag as one of my guides to learning how to take decent pictures, the electronic copy is great. How many of you would like to be able to "just check that tip from septembers copy" but don't carry around a years worth of mags when you're out and about. An iPad slips easily into my camera bag and can contain every edition I choose to buyTL;DRGreat content, but could improve to use iPads potentialElectronic copies have definite advantages over paper too.
Downloaded the free sample edition of the magazine, thank you. Pretty much the same as the print version, even the price is the same. Can't fault the publication itself, everything I would expect from a eversion of the mag. Excellent. For what it's worth, I can't understand why people give it a 1* rating. Of course you need to buy the mag, would you wander in to the store and just walk out without paying. If anything Apple need to change the label 'free' to 'subscription' or something, but to give a low rating just because they aren't giving it away is silly.
I am a subscriber of the paperback edition, but the digital edition is just as good. The price should be cheaper, as it is virtual, but people should stop rating it 1 star because they don't understand how newsstand works. You download the app for free, then pay for the magazines. You aren't entitled to any free magazines, even though the September edition is free. To summarise, it's a great alternative to the paperback edition, and don't believe these 1 star reviews. Just people reading in between the lines.
Do not understand the negative reviews here, yes it says it's free, but that's the app for what ever mag you are downloading, same/similar pricing as Zinio. There are a few dead links on the camera mag I downloaded ( which was free for a limited time ) and as someone else has stated can't think of any local newsagent giving away free copies of newspapers / magazines ...I prefer the way zinio works over newsstand , but maybe this will be refined in due course...
Ok ... so it's not free ... I can't remember a newsagent ever offering me a free copy of Digital Camera! I agree that the price is too expensive ... it MUST Be cheaper for the publishers to compile and distribute the e-version. Maybe it is Apple getting greedy. However ... I LOVE being able to browse the magazine wherever I have my iPad. The reproduction is great ... clear crisp images and text. There is less content than the printed edition, and maybe they will include 'pull-outs' and supplements in the future. I certainly won't miss the agonising decision as to whether I should 're-cycle' my back editions.I'm giving it only 4 stars for two reasons ...No1: It IS too expensive. No 2: I would LOVE to be able to bookmark useful articles for future reference.Apart from that ... I like it!
I enjoyed being able to access Digital Camera's usual fantastic content on the train without having to cart a magazine along with me. in this format I can also flick through the vivid images, and refer back to helpful articles, repeatedly whilst keeping it in the condition I bought it in.
