Brilliant Idea - Needs Improvement
This is a great idea and clever use of technology, but be careful - I created a temp. credit card so I could subscribe to a trial service, but the merchant refused the card. Ah well I thought, nothing lost. BUT that was enough to trigger the £3/month subscription. It was month two (£6 down) until I realised.
Using the in app messaging to complain only resulted in a standard reply, in summary....‘you created a card to use, this starts the subscription’
To be fair to the developer, Joshua, he agreed to refund me after I emailed directly. I’m expecting the refund to my account very soon.
I’ll be checking back in future to see if the system has improved. I wish them luck.
Scam, I declined subscription, they signed me up anyway!
I heard about this App on the UK TV Gadget Show (Channel 5) Se32 Wallop of the Week. They said the App gave you 1 Free Virtual Credit card but as you open the App your asked for your bank or credit card details else you can’t go any further!
Like a fool, I did, shame I didn’t have a virtual credit card no. to give them!
Every option you then click on pops up with a subscribe button at £36 a year, a little steep for a Virtual Credit card! I declined! I was then told I’d need to wait 4 months (31st March 2021). I was OK to wait but when my credit card statement arrived in January, I see DoNotPay has already started to taking £3 off me per month. £6 down for a service I’ve never used. I may have considered a one off payment for a Virtual Credit Card of £3 but I can get a pre-paid Revolut card for Free!
When I open the App, I see the App has magically subscribed me!!
I wish I had never installed the App!
If you can’t afford to lose money, I suggest you don’t even try to download this App, as you’ll be at least £3 out of pocket before you can try and put a stop on it! Millions of users x £3, is a nice side-hussle! It reminds me of those custom ring-tones subscriptions people ended up with back in the Nokia days!!
Avoid this app if your based in Britain
First time posting a review on the App Store after downloading lots of apps some of which were very bad. The reason for posting a review about the DoNotPay app is that I’m very concerned about my bank details. To use this app you must allow DoNotPay to scan your bank card. I did so on the basis that this service was massively hyped in the media. Don’t believe the hype. I’m based in Britain and this app is for Americans based in USA who have legal issues with USA based businesses. It is not for UK issues. Ending the App subscription is not easy and there is no way on the App to delete your account and bank details after cancelling the subscription. I don’t like to be negative about any business in these difficult times but if you’re based in Britain with a problem against a British based business, avoid this app.
