Dr IQ it’s only as good as the medical team resources behind it

The app allows you to give you for your information about your symptoms and treatment et cetera and ask questions.

You can only register enquiry call Christian women on the self so if there’s no one to do that particular thing on that day like over the weekend, you can’t even a question appointment for the following days. But if there’s nobody there at the surgery to answer the question about skin problems or back problems whatever on that day it’s fairly useless.
The language is simple easy to understand. But it could do with more options to give more nuanced answers more than just yes / no.

Very poor

The medication look-up (for non-prescription requests) returns no results, no matter what medication I type. There should at least be a manual entry option here too. It blocked me from ordering my medication, and I’ve had to go through the consultation route instead, wasting resources.

When I order repeat prescription medication, the app says it has been ordered - but there is no evidence of this in my medication lists or notifications. Once the modal is gone, there’s no record of it. On top of this, sometimes the requests do not appear to go through. I have gone to my pharmacy 2-3 days after my request to get my asthma inhaler, and almost every time it is not there and I have to order it again. This is very upsetting because I’m worried about being able to breathe.

I dread to think what my experience of this app would be like as an elderly person or a person with disabilities or impairments. The UX and UI of this app needs a general overhaul, especially with regards to accessibility standards (there is no way it meets even WCAG AA). Text is too small, icons are misused, colours have insufficient contrast. Some of its button action patterns are bizarre, and the error messages don’t help you. To top it off, the feedback section throws an error (with no explanation) and won’t accept feedback - which is why I’m writing here instead!

Gatekeeping, unhelpful and rude staff

It’s hard to view this app as anything other than to keep patients from going to see a doctor. Patients are gaslighted into thinking they’re probably overreacting and instead prescribed medication via a phone consultation rather than having an appointment with a GP. On my first call I was prescribed medication that was delivered to a pharmacy that’s not even near where I live. The second call was with an overworked and impatient person who started the call by listing the reasons why I wouldn’t get a referral anyway, tried to diagnose me via phone and prescribe other medication. I insisted to be put through to arrange an appointment with my GP practice, which was agreed to only reluctantly. I still haven’t heard back. This was last month. The NHS is overburdened and underfunded, I shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting to see a doctor when I have serious health concerns. This culture of stopping people from going to see a doctor leads to more and more people ignoring symptoms and illnesses being discovered potentially too late. I will be searching for a GP practice that doesn’t use dr IQ, as I felt unsafe discussing my health with an unfriendly stranger on the phone who made me feel like a burden. No one should be made to feel that way when they reach out to see a doctor.
