e-Sword X initially installs with the King James Bible and the King James with Strong's numbers study Bible, the Strong's Lexicon, Smith's Bible dictionary, F. B. Meyer devotional commentary, and the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge cross references. There are over one hundred additional Bibles, commentaries, dictionaries, lexicons, reference books and devotionals that you can download and add to your library absolutely free!
Also available are some "locked" resources which must be purchased from their publisher. These are copyright and licensing requirements which are unavoidable.
Please note that e-Sword X is an *ENGLISH* release (but does include Spanish UI localization.) There are dozens of non-English Bibles available, but all other content is in English.

Not perfect, but indispensable
I was initially lukewarm about this app, but I’ve been using it for over a year and now find it indispensable. If you’re KJV this has everything you need for study, including all the classic commentaries, lexicons, dictionaries etc with a straightforward, easy to navigate interface. It’s a pity that the iPhone, iPad and Mac apps are all quite separate with no syncing of content/settings between them. And none of them get much in the way of updates or improvements—they all still look like rather elderly Windows ports. But overall, they’re good value, work well and are easy to recommend to anyone who has found the likes of Logos simply too overwhelming.
The Best Bible Program
I Have been using E-Sword for about 20 yrs, first on PC & now on Mac. Without doubt it is still the best Bible Study Program/app out there. what is even better is your bible purchases are valid on any computer you use, so pc at the office Mac at home plus your ipd or phone. plenty of versions & apps. The paid for ones represent great value over hard-copies. My favorite is ‘Easy To Read Version…. does exaxtly what it says on the tin. For sermons I use journal or topic to save them (usually after pasting them in from Word or Google) So far i havent been able to see how to see my notes on all my devices but in reality that fairly minor but would be useful to add. E-Sword is much better value than all except the free packages which are less well featured. a must have for serious bible users/students.
Greater than ever!
I upgraded to version 4.0 without any problems and found it to work just great. I was able to download all of my previously purchased items without a problem and everything seemed to download faster than before. The programme runs very smoothly without any glitches or problems and is still the best bible programme that I have ever used. I now have it on my mac and on my iPad and I use it every day for devotions and for study. It makes my sermon preparation very easy since I am able to cut and paste into word quite easily. As a pastor and missionary this programme has given me access to tools that I simply did not have and probably woudl not have purchased. Thank you for making this available to us for so little.
