EasyPark - Parking made easy 4+

Good app

Used for first time yesterday, in Norway , instructions in English would have been handy , one of the locals helped me set it up. Once I got it working, it worked great , I like the fact that you can adjust your parking time as and when needed , and stop it when you want , so you only pay for exact time you are parked.

Design flaw

This app made it really easy to find and pay for parking in English whilst visiting Puglia in Italy. I was a huge fan when I first discovered it.

However, the design of the app with the start/stop parking in the centre and the dial to increase parking time around the centre meant that whilst I was trying to increase our parking time on one occasion, my thumb accidentally touched the stop parking instead. As my partner and I were not at the car, we couldn’t explain to the ticket officer that the few minutes between this accidental cancellation and our following Payment to increase our parking was due to this reason. We therefore got back the next morning to find that we had not only paid the £20 to park over night but we also received a €26 euro fine within the few minutes it took to restart the parking instead of extending.

Although I don’t blame EasyPark entirely, I think this shows a flaw in the design, which could cause others to get a fine if the same incident occurs. Hence the reason I’m giving it 3 stars instead of 5.

Takes away the stress

Have used this app a few times now when on holiday and have to applaud the team behind it, it works really well. It’s so much easier to pay this way, vs stressing out to find a machine, have the right coins or grapple with a broken credit card reader. Yes, it costs a bit more than if you use coins - but it’s a small amount which you can often recoup as if you leave early and end the booking it will normally give money back (which is nice), equally, if running late you can extend your booking - another delightful feature.

One small improvement - the big round button to stop a reservation is just too easy to tap by mistake. I wish they made if smaller, or moved it. I’m also not a fan of rotating the same wheel to set duration (it’s naff) - fortunately you can click on the number to set manually (much more sensible).

All said, it’s still a great execution and I’m only sad when a town doesn’t use it.
