“Ecoute Is The Best Music Player For iOS. Period.” - MacStories.
Ecoute for iOS is an alternative player using your existing musical library. It sports a clean and elegant interface, revolves around gestures to help you control your music quickly, and integrates Twitter, Facebook, and Last.fm so you can share your favorites tracks.
It enhances your control over the music by adding more options like 'shuffle by albums', 'play next' and 'add up next'.
Moreover, Ecoute offers the ability to manage the now playing queue. Add songs on the go and reorganize your tracks with ease!
The user interface automatically switches into night mode as the brightness of the screen decreases. You can also force the night mode if the default UI doesn't fit you.
Ecoute supports AirPlay and iTunes Match. Metadata like Play counts, and last played dates are synchronised.
Available filters are Artists, Albums, Composers, Genres, Playlists, Compilations, Songs, and Audiobooks.
** IMPORTANT **:
Music.app needs to be installed for Ecoute to works properly.
- Fix a crash related to Dynamic Type
- Add Japanese localization (thanks to Mix Tobin)
Ratings and Reviews
Excellent but with minor flaws
This is a fantastic player. Simple and easy to use, and operates brilliantly given it's unavoidable reliance on Apple's bloated iTunes. Playlists look good and play well. It's not without flaws; the fact that playlists default to shuffle is intensely annoying when for example, you're listening to something chilled out and it shuffles to a metal track. Odd that they haven't sorted that bug out. A minor niggle is the look of the playlists-the image representing the playlist is split into four images taken from the different album artwork found on the tracks and it looks messy - it would be nice to be able to customise to just show the one image from say, the first track and/or be able to edit the background colour etc - but lack of customisation is a minor issue. Overall, it's one of the best players I've used. Only rating it as 3 stars as the shuffle default is very irritating. Worth the spend.
Love it but two small niggles
Been a user of Ecoute for a long time now. However with the advent of iOS 10, it switched from having four albums per row to just two large and chunky icons! Really not attractive at all and does not make best use of a Plus size screen - which should really be about density of information and fitting more on screen - not less!
PLEASE reinstate (at least as an option) the ability to show 4 albums per row again.
Also, previously asked for but still not implemented: When viewing all albums of an artist they are presented alphabetically. PLEASE can we have an option to order them chronologically?? Alphabetic ordering of albums really makes no sense at all.
Aside from these two small issues, this is a great app and I'd recommend it heartily.
I purchased this app for one reason. I own a Mazda CX-5 and the stock music app will not shuffle tracks within my music other than through letters of the alphabet. It would randomly start a song beginning with F and then play every track beginning with F but not true shuffle. After getting nowhere with Mazda they merely blamed Apple. I went onto the internet and researched it and lo and behold came across this app. It uses my Apple Music in the background and updates my play counts but most of all it shuffles. Thank you for that.
