Very good mail app

notepad

This is a fast, fully-featured mail app that (mostly) works very well with Gmail. I say mostly because I cannot find a way of properly deleting/trashing emails sent to my Gmail. The app gives the appearance of making this possible (even sending them to a IMAP/Trash folder in Gmail when configured), but the deleted messages just return to the inbox as soon as the mailbox is refreshed. I understand this may be a Gmail IMAP limitation, but the app should make this clear to the user and if possible suggest workarounds. The app is fully-featured and very customisable. One major feature it does not have (which Spark and Apple Mail do) is the ability to schedule email sending (send later).

Finally, the UI is slick and glitch free. It does not feel 'native', though; the most glaring example of this being the preferences/settings which do not open in a separate window, and therefore interrupt the flow of what you're doing. Devs, please make settings a separate window normal Mac apps do. The interface also overuses gray, low-contrast text for UI elements. I assume the rationale is to help the user focus on email content, but this does not work e.g. in preferences and strains the eyes. So a bit of a UI refresh would be welcome. Overall though a great app.

Good app

Have been using Spark for years, but the Spark 3 launch debacle forced me to switch. ove the way Edison Mail works on my desktop - not sure I like the iOS client though, I keep putting subject titles in BCC lines etc, and stupid things like that - not sure why I can't learn to drive the iOS version. With the desktop version everything works great except Print to PDF. For legal reasons I have to retain some email messages and the best way is to Print to PDF. Edison Mail doesn't quite get the layout right - so what should be a 1-page email messsage becomes a 3 or 4-page document, most of which are blank (and this increases the PDF's file size too). I've raised the query with them, so I hope they can resolve this issue soon. Would love to see Snooze, but note from another review this was requested a year ago. Overall though, Edison Mail appears solid and reliable.

Not bad

After a week of use, it seems a pretty nice app and the search works much better than it does in Mail – definitely worth a try. There are, however, some annoyances:

• New emails come in more slowly than they do in Mail (which in turn is not the fastest)
• It defaults to US date format rather than picking up the OS settings.
• It doesn't seem to use standard text handling so all the usual substitutions, text expansions and transformations are unavailable.
• You can’t quit without first saving drafts and it doesn’t remember what you had open
• If you start writing an email then close it, it gets saved to Drafts whether you want it to or not.
• Right-click menus are non-standard and can’t be navigated with the arrow keys
• If another application has focus (e.g. Finder) and you try dragging an attachment from an email, Email takes focus – this shouldn’t happen with macOS apps.
• I’m not sure why when printing, the preview is a separate step ahead of the print dialog.
• No Undo in the Edit menu
• Some shortcuts only seem to work when in the main message window. E.g if you are writing an email and press Cmd N for a new email, nothing happens.
• No keyboard controls for moving up and down paragraphs or to top/bottom of email
