Bugs everywhere
Accessing to to El País app (paying subscription) from an Instagram link it’s a bug. Not fixed with last update
Very poor performance
The app works quite badly. I am a subscriber, but:
Most times it does not download content when using the specific app function.
Design is poor: when managing to “download content” in reality you can only download the front cover of news. So when out of data coverage, it delivers a very restricted content experience.
I have contacted El País support & have received the same message as I can read here in response to many similar comments: to delete & reinstall. Done many times, still it does not work! So please action & stop hiding behind this tech excuse.
Also, while being a paying customer, I am regularly asked to accept cookies from their 800 “partners”. So I am forced to regularly repeat my rejection of this. Why can’t El País keep on record my choices? I feel it betrays me as a user, because I view my payment as a way to avoid having my personal data being collected & sold to everyone. But it seems that El País wants to make us pay twice, with our money & also with our personal data.
The app is the worst performing one on my phone from day 1. I remain subscribed because I want to keep in touch with events in Spain, but my patience is running very thin.
In contrast, The Guardian offers a great user experience.
The Global Newspaper
El País is a quality newspaper with international reporting by news agencies and foreign correspondents, it also has collaboration agreements with various European newspapers. It is a newspaper of record in Spain and is known for highly factual reporting with minimal failed fact checks. It has a slight centre left bias.
I recommend this newspaper for English readers who wish to get an unbiased look at international affairs, with particular spotlight on the US, Europe and South America.
