  • Best App for Charging your car in Norway

    Kswitch13

A great app for charging your electric car while in Norway. Easy to find locations for charging and paying through the app. If visiting from another country be aware that some charging points require different apps and they won’t all allow you to sign up with a phone number from another country.

Used this app in Norway with a rental car. Overall does the job so that you can keep the car sufficiently charged for your planned journeys.App has some real strengths. Easy to sign up even if you are from a foreign country The app will identify chargers across different providers specific to your EV so that you can choose the most convenient. However be aware that Elton doesn’t have access to every public charger ( and you may require another app like Bilkraft or be able to use Norwegian mobile phone payment system Vipps. ) Has inbuilt navigation app that works in CarPlay so that it will take you to your chosen charger. Also provides a receipt for charging fees immediately afterwards that you can keep in touch with app profile and also forward on ( eg if you need to claim expenses). The app suggests charging points for a selected route, but the algorithm needs some work. Who is going to stop for 9 minutes to add sat a minimal 10% charge and then make another recommended stop to add a larger 60% charge, when a single charging stop would work just as well? However, the app is buggy and that wasted time for us. The navigation app dropped out a couple of times and didn’t remember the last destination - not great when you’re trying to find a charger to top up the car before returning (just as well Google maps was working at the time as a backup). When charging, the app has the ability to instruct the charger to stop, so you don’t have to babysit the car. This didn’t work one time, and we’d left the car to go for a trail walk. Had to come back hours early from our walk to unplug the car and avoid racking up charging costs.Suspect we would have had better control of charging if we had been connected to the car’s own app as well but that wasn’t an option with a rental car.
