Description

Many Mac apps show what’s currently playing in your Music — often by rendering semi-transparent widgets over what you do. Those widgets distract you from work and never answer the question “What’s playing?” the moment you have it.

Emcee humbly shows the song in the menu bar.

The song name does not scroll, it stands still.

Good, with one glaring issue

I’ve been using TuneBuddy for many years now to show me what song is playing in my menu bar, however it hasn’t been updated in many years and doesn’t support songs playing through iTunes radio, so it’s pointless.

After trying many alternate apps, I found this to be the nicest design wise. Very simple, unobtrusive, fits the system theme. The one glarring issue is it’s location on the menu bar, TuneBuddy had a ‘Always stay on left’ option, so it would always stay to the left of all other menu bar icons. This doesn’t have a setting like that and as such, gets muddled up between dropbox, creative cloud, and other third party menu bar icons. Only way to get it on the left it to keep quiting and restarting it until it ends up there.

I’d love a patch that added this option, otherwise, nice app.

Wonderful, Underrated

Like another review has said - this app is exactly what I was searching for - a simple, minimalistic menu bar indicator which reads out whatever Apple Music is currently playing.

It took me a while to scroll down through the app store to find this, but I'm so glad I did. It reminds me of the old WinAmp days.

The only thing it's missing is the ability to show what's playing when Apple Music is controlling playback on another device (eg. a homepod or iphone).

Thank you Ilya Birman and Alexey Blinov!

Absolutely perfect

Just what I was looking for. Minimal and useful.

And for those not in the know, Cmd clicking icons in the menu bar allows dragging, so you can reorder however you like!
