I have long term sleep problems and so I am always in the look out for something that will help. I have at times found music/soundscapes designed to help one reduce anxiety or sleep such as Weightless helpful, so when I came across this app it was just what I was waiting for. I think that for sleep I do find that it is helpful in terms of me getting off to sleep and In going back to sleep when I wake up, however, after a few hours, the soundscape itself, which by then seems to have become undifferentiated white noise in the foreground with some tantalising notes underneath, wakes me up and I cannot get back to sleep. The noise it produces become just annoying. I know that I have only had the app a few days, but each night it has been the same. I have tried various ways to alter this, by turning the noise up or down, playing it through my Sonos speaker in the bedroom, which ended up even worse. I should add that some of the other soundscapes have been much more helpful and I may continue to use Endel for them. However, I am giving it only two stars because I bought it for sleep, but a sleep app that in the end disturbs sleep is useless. Now just because I am affected in this way DOESN’T mean that anyone else will be affected in the same way, it may well be just my issue, but I am writing this review not to try and influence anyone else, but as a note of my experience. I would love the developers to be able to go something to help with this. I also want to say that I think that the app is a brilliant idea and I am fully supportive of the underlying concept. The sleep aspect of it, just doesn’t work for me by the time it reached the point I mentioned. I do wish the app ever success and I hope that others will continue to find it helpful in all aspects.
Hi Rory, thanks for your thorough feedback and for sharing your experience of using Endel!Yes, you're right. The Sleep mode plays the same soundscape created by following Dr. Roy Raymann's sleep research and approved by him. Now in the Sleep mode, for the first 40 minutes, the algorithm generates an intro/onset sound, and then it starts playing soft noise. The idea is that the intro helps you fall asleep, and then, when you are already asleep, the soft noise enables you to stay asleep. More on it here https://endel.zendesk.com/hc/ru/articles/360017520779-Why-you-sleep-better-with-Endel.But we are thinking about creating variations of this mode, and I hope that they will appear soon.It should be also noted, that sound perception is a very subjective thing, and we fully admit that our soundscapes really may not have the intended effect. Nevertheless, we try to create them based on scientific research, some of which we order specifically to make a particular mode.
