If you’re thinking about going green and making the switch to an EV what should you consider? Concerned about cost? Range anxiety? Many people feel they don’t know enough to make an informed choice about an electric vehicle or EV.
Going electric doesn’t have to be complicated. EV8 Switch helps you go green with confidence. Developed in the UK, the app is supported by NatWest and part-funded by the UK Space Agency through the European Space Agency.
EV8 Switch works best when EVs are compared against your existing vehicle. So once you’ve told us about your vehicle and you are registered, EV8 Switch will monitor and log your journeys to build up a picture of your driving behaviour and how you get around.
For EV8 Switch to provide more reliable results, you will need to collect 14 days of driving data to unlock personalised insights, advice and recommendations. After your first journey is recorded, The 14 Day Challenge begins!
Your driving data is used to calculate the real cost and environmental benefits of switching to an EV based on your individual needs and driver behaviour. EV8 Switch also highlights how often you would need to charge your EV and the location of chargepoints along your routes.
Our ‘Switchability Score’ indicates how suitable an EV would be for your needs. It’s real-time analysis of your driving behaviour helps you visualise how an EV could fit into your lifestyle and outlines the financial and CO2 savings you could achieve.
Our app makes it easy to find the right EV for your driving needs by providing bespoke electric vehicle recommendations based on your existing vehicle and the journey data you have logged.
With a dedicated support team on hand to help you throughout, learning more about how you could go green is easier than you think.

Hi champie_rth, thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Like many other apps EV8 Switch does require a very simple account set-up. This ensures that your personalised 'Switchability Score' is as accurate as possible and we strive to give our users the best possible experience.
Needs Location Data Turned on 24/7
App seemed like a great idea but I wasn’t too happy with having to register with an account. But I relented so I could use the app and when I logged in the Apple location services permission screen appeared. No problem I thought, because it needs access when I use the app - so I set it to allow only when using the app.
My understanding was, the app would be invoked when it detected background movement consistent with driving. This is not unusual because iPhones do this for other apps. Logic would say that when this happens, the app would open as a background service (background app refresh was on) and the car journeys would be recorded. But the next time I opened the app to check if my journeys had uploaded the app demanded I gave it location access! Obviously, I had granted location access whilst using the app so it was surprising to see the app asking for this when using the app. I actually couldn’t get the app to open until I’d granted it permanent location access. Then I checked to see uploads and discovered it hadn’t recorded any of my journeys!
So, it appears this app demands 24/7 permanent location access to even open which is far too invasive for my liking. If they sort out the location access to be invoked only when driving I’ll try the app again. Until then, it’s pretty useless as it doesn’t meet my ‘terms of engagement’ and is currently deleted from my phone.
Thinking of getting an EV.. this is for you
This pretty much is exactly what I was looking for EV switch planning. Gradually collects data of your car journeys without any effort and then gives you a load of appropriate car options relative to how you travel. Also the little extra info about pollution is quite astounding. Fingers crossed I’ll be in an EV soon 👍
