Poromies ,

Goodbye Evernote, you were great, but.....

I used Evernote for almost ten years, and I am grateful for the data repository it provided. I used it mainly to clip and store random information that I would later process to create structured notes or project plans. Other articles were simply left as they were for future interest and access when needed.
As Evernote has evolved, it has become more difficult to save information. It no longer appears in my Mac's "share" menu and no longer saves directly from note writing apps that I use. Even the previously amazing web clipper no longer works as well.
Getting information out is equally difficult, especially if I am travelling and have poor internet access. Even at home with fast internet Evernote will randomly freeze with a spinning sync wheel for quite a long time.
If I want to use a note from Evernote in another app I need to either copy and paste or save as a pdf. I can only do that one note at a time and not as a batch.
In summary, my Evernote workflow has become too difficult and too slow. The fact that the subscription will almost double to retain the features I need is a disincentive for future use. I reverted to the legacy version, but I have now switched to another app that is much faster and more flexible. It will just take me a very long time to export all the material I want to keep before I delete my Evenote notes.

What happened?

I loved (yes, past tense) this app. It has helped me through a degree, manageing customers, sharing a curriculum with a colleague and allowing remote updating via him and so, much more. And yes, I pay for this app. Now the one thing that I use it for the most, has become irritatingly unsuable. Encryption.

It used to be that you highlight the text, select Encrypt from a right click context menu, type in the password and done. Then when you want to view, right click and view (obviously typing in a password). You could then view, edit, do what ever, then simply move away to lock it again. Now it seems that I have to decrypt it permanantly to be able to edit it. Such a pain, and YES, I am fully aware that this is a first world problem, BUT I LIVE IN A FIRST WORLD. Please, Evernote team, can encryption be put back how it was?

Update: I found the Legacy version from a few comments here. I got to go back to a previous version and I am happy again. Hope this little nugget helps others whilst we wait for thingd to go back to normal. Search Evernote Legacy and it will take you were you need to go.

Latest version for Mac is AWFUL!!

I used to absolutely love Evernote and used it to keep lots of information about lots of different subjects at my finger tips all the time. I loved that it synced really quickly between my iPhone, iPad and Mac but I nearly always used my Mac to create notes as I found it much easier (and had far fewer typos!)

Then I made the mistake of downloading the lastest version for Mac without looking at the reviews and I absolutely HATE it. All the things that I loved about the previous version and which made creating my notes incredibly easy, such as screenshotting photos and just dropping them instantly into a note, being able to put the photo exactly where I wanted in relation to text, the choice of fonts etc has all gone. The font choices are now incredibly restricted and are not fonts that I would or have ever used for my notes. To place a photo I have to save it, name it and then choose to insert it and I can't place it where I want but where Evernote thinks it should go. The general look of notes is completely different. It is incredibly frustrating.

I have reverted to the Legacy version for now - thank God - but if the new version becomes the only version I will be cancelling my subscription. I can only hope that the developers pay attention to the fact that all previous users appear to loathe the lastest version and that they will revert to how it worked before. If I could give the new version 0 or negative stars, I would.
