Fav RSS reader but one hold-back
As a heavy daily user of Feedly “Classic” I’d love to switch to the new version to stay with the updates - and it’s a very useful, pretty, functional app and the previews seem to be improved (no more clicking boxes of content to unhide paragraphs)
BUT! Since it has moved from pages to scrolling individual items, you can no longer mark a page as read
I use RSS to skim through hundreds of items a day, marking as read and keeping the odd item unread page-by-page. The new option only allows you to mark everything above/below as read, or mark as read one item at a time vs five at a time
This adds so much time that I just stick to classic. Would love this functionality to return from Classic so that I can swap to using this!
PS: the dark mode is also very pretty - why does it not auto-switch depending on the device settings??
Good with key weakness
I mainly use my rss reader when commuting on the tube. They're great as you download the data to the phone so you can carry on reading on the train.
Feedly doesn't seem to do that properly, as when I refresh the feed it seems to update and can read for a little while. But then while I'm going in and out of articles it will say "no connection, please refresh" and not let me access articles that have already been downloaded.
It also seems to have issues with downloading images in the background
Terrible scrolling experience
Never have I known an app so good with one minor UI issue that effectively prohibits use of the app. That issue is the inability to scroll through content. Feedly has 3 navigation options: Stack, Swipe, Scroll. But Scroll is in fact another version of Stack, where content is grouped into screen-sized stacks. Only one stack can be seen at a time. You then ‘scroll’ through stacks, but the stacks snap into position.
Every year or so I try out a new reader (since google reader disappeared). I try out Feedly and am reminded each time why I could never use it.
It requires such a simple fix: add a natural scroll feature, with no Stack snapping. The eyes can then remain locked in position while the content scrolls. Currently your eyes need to read top to bottom, then repeat for each new Stack. It sounds minor, and it is an extremely simple fix, but it’s frustrating enough for me to not want to use the app. Please fix this!
