Don’t bother paying for the add on if you’re going to Le Mans
I purchased the add on pack to be able to see what was happening and get live timing during the race while actually at Le Mans as I knew it would be hard to see a screen most of the time. It would have been great, but the infrastructure isn’t there to allow for people streaming. On race day it wouldn’t load at all, not even the timings, let alone to see the video. The WiFi on site is limited and also wouldn’t allow you to join, and there wasn’t enough bandwidth in the mobile network to support the amount of people. It’s a real shame as it’s worked well at other WEC races, if you’re going to ask people to rely on apps you need to put in the infrastructure.
Sceptical but worked well
As the title suggests I was sceptical at first as previous reviews were not so favourable to the app, but I noticed that the app had been updated multiple times since the Qatar 1812KM, some of the changes were regarding the playback player and performance improvements.
I took the plunge and subscribed just for the 6H of Imola to see how well it worked and to my surprise it worked flawlessly, I had very few issues with the app as it never crashed, the stream never buffered and the quality was great. Though the UI is still a bit confusing I did get used to the quirks of it.
I’ll definitely be subscribing to other races this season if this app keeps performing this way.
Rushed
Seems pretty rushed, with parts still in French, still doesn’t understand that many iPhones have a notch like the old one and puts parts of the UI there.
Your old WEC account is not valid anymore, so you have to register again, which is pretty annoying.
More worrying is the amount of intrusive information they ask. Your gender, you postcode (Seriously!!). Or the French privacy policy (lol) they ask you to accept, 25 pages in size 3px. Good luck with that people. Wonder what GDPR has to say about it.
