Description

File Rename lets you rename a number of files quickly and easily, saving you time and effort.

Drag and drop one or more files or folders from Finder onto the app and you're ready to start renaming.

Friendly, Fast and Complete
File Rename is a fast, friendly and complete batch/bulk file renaming tool for macOS. With over 12 different rename options, it can handle most renaming tasks (and if it doesn't do what you need, just drop us an email).

Real-Time Preview and Undo Feature
The app displays a real-time preview of the renamed files so you can confirm the changes before actually performing any renaming. Should you decide after a rename that you want to revert the changes, there is always the undo feature.

For Digital Photographers
The app makes it quick and easy for photographers to create detailed filenames for all their photos by adding number sequences, date information of when the photo was taken and EXIF metadata such as: width & height, aperture, ISO, focal length, F-number and shutter speed.

For Music Enthusiasts
The app is ideal for renaming MP3 audio files. As long as the audio files contain the relevant metadata, you can standardise the names of audio files, by including information such as: title, artist, album, album artist, genre, composer, year, track number, track total, disc number, disc total, bit rate, sample rate and duration.

For Techies (via in-app purchase)
For the more technical minded, the app offers an advanced section allowing the use of powerful regular expressions for finding and replacing in filenames.

Simultaneous Rename Options
The rename options can be used in conjunction with each other making complex renaming a simple task. An intuitive user interface makes it easy to see at a glance which options are currently in use.

File drag lost

File rename was working great for me until this last update where the file drag feature has been inexplicably dropped. You now can only drag a whole folder, not just the files you want to rename.

I have all my 2012 pictures in one folder, drag in new pictures from an SD card and then rename them in small groups depending on where the pictures were taken, keeping them within the same folder.

Now I will need to drag a few pictures at a time into a separate folder, rename from there and then drag back into the 2012 picture folder. This doubles the work and opens things up for making errors.

Please, please put back this feature or I will need to look elsewhere. This was a 4 star product and now only 2 stars for my use. To make it 5 stars, please put back the file drag facility and also allow a drop down of recently used names rather than just the last one used. (I prefix the existing filename with Date and time and then Postfix with a description of the photo)

Works, but only used it for a few minutes

I had a very specific requirement for this app. I have had to download a great many Word and Excel documents, but the spaces always have %20 added to them by my Mac. So I wanted to remove all the %20 with a space.

I know this is possble without an app because I have done it in the past. But I don’t want to do a Google everytime I want to do it. Therefore I bought this app. It is really easy to use. Just drag a folder into the app. Click on Replace in the menu, tell it what set of characters you want it to find, then tell it what character is to be used to replace it. Fast, efficient, easy.

It does lots of other stuff which I will use in the future, but so far I have only used find and replace.

Very odd sequencing

i selected
name prefix
R1-4921- which works okay
Sequence, add to end, sequence formatted as 001, 002,003. Starting at 001 with single sequence across folders

and i get
r1-4921-001
r1-4921-003

its skipping all the even numbers. Not working correctly. Needs fixing, very annoying when you pay for an app that has bugs
