FindPenguins: Travel Tracker 4+

Been using FindPenguins since 2017. It has been great for documenting long distance routes over many days. No problem that some routes were broken by 2 years of lockdown. Family and friends seem to have no problem finding it and affectionately call it ‘Penguins’.
If I could have any improvement it would be for dates in UK or ISO format.

It took several tries to understand how key features work. I didn’t want a public blog so everyone and his dog knows how long my house is empty but just to let friends know how I’m getting on.
You could make it clear that a private share without downloading the app gives access to just that one post. To access all at will requires the friend to download the app. Just these two facts would have made it much easier to get going. Not everyone wants to download an app, some even slightly paranoid about doing so. Otherwise it is doing what I hoped it would, a diary with photos and a little commentary and that this can be shared privately with friends. Extra features such as the distance travelled and particularly the maps are very welcome features. In short I’m glad I’m doing this rather than a paper diary as in the past.
4 of my friends already have downloaded the app and thinking of using it for their own travels. You’re doing well out of me already on this trip in terms of publicity at least if not financially.
I see the premium service give some money to a Penguin cause. What is the connection? Might be good to have a paragraph describing that.

Using it on my iPad.
It crashes like once every three to five minutes! If I load a new footprint in draft with photos, when I go to upload it when I have an Internet connection, all of the photos are upside down! So I have to delete them and upload them again, but woe betide me trying to upload more than one at a time that point (although I can when I first create a footprint but of course, when I am out, I don't have an Internet connection do I?) as if I do, it crashes immediately!
So I have to delete the upside down photos and add them again one by one. Very slow process, especially as it crashes every few minutes and when it does so, doesn't save the changes in whichever footprint I was working on so I have to do it all again!!
It is taking me ten times as long to do something that I should be able to do in a few minutes.
The two stars are because once I get everything online it looks good and it enables my friends and family to follow where I am. The functionality is extremely poor and I want to stop using it altogether but can't as otherwise my family don't know where I am.
Please stops these terrible bugs.
