Trying this app for the first time and coming from Lose It which is fine if not a bit ugly/not fully intuitive. Lots of great recipes which I appreciate and the core of the app is great - it is new so I imagine with a few tweaks it could be really excellent. For me I would love the ability to customise the grams/other units when entering food in a more intuitive way - for example if something is 128 grams I have to make a guess at what the decimal or fraction would be rather than being able to enter 128g directly which makes me worry about how accurate it is recording my food and whilst it’s fine to do that calculation when I’m at home with time on my hands it becomes much harder when I’m rushing around trying to track food on the go. Secondly, the ability to pair with the main fitness appa like Strava. I know the focus isn’t on doing sports to lose weight but it all plays into your ability to accurately stay within a calorie deficit so that’s a big thing for me. Look forward to seeing the app grow and love your overall message and style so keep at it!

Not great for tracking calories, okay for recipe inspiration

App is still new and I like the selection of recipes, most are all easy to follow and budget friendly. Unfortunately the ai generated photos really put me off the food. For tracking calories I really don’t recommend the app I do find it combersome with the search that I can’t search my own recipes that I’ve added. I struggle with reading and personally I don’t love the search function it’s a bit hard to narrow down what I’m looking for and would be nice if there was a better visual of the list alternate background colours(better contrast)/ emojis/ photographs next to ingredients rather than just a line as there is a lot of information for each item. There’s a lot of basic ingredients that aren’t on the app that I would expect to be on. When adding in your own recipes would be good to add your own photograph and if you could just search for your own recipes, and even possibly the opportunity to make the recipe public to share with other users . When adding an item to the planner I wish you could edit the quantities and meal, without having to delete and re-add the item again. When it comes to recording weight, I have a smart scale that I use everyday and it’ll update the apple health app to track trends. Disappointing that the fitness chef app doesn’t use my weight measurements from the health app when they are already transferring data on my step count feels like a bit of a missed opportunity.Overall I don’t feel like the app is worth paying the subscription, plenty of apps out there that do a better job

Hi Fiona. Thanks for your review. Last week we actually updated the design of the My Food and food search sections which resolve the issues you had above 🙏. We are also very close to releasing a version where each of the 1.5 million food items will have an image next to it 🙌. Additionally, we are just about to add the ability to copy meals and food items to different days and also edit quantities of items you’ve already added to your planner! Perhaps give the app another try in a couple of weeks :)
Great app and recipes

Having used other apps like My Fitness Pal and Weight Watchers, this one is far better in my opinion - there are no food “categories” (eg. silly point values for a piece of chocolate and “free food” type scenarios) and you can find tons of recipes that are quick, filling and don’t break the bank. The scan works really well and you can create your recipes and save them for a quick add in future. You can track weight and/or measurements if you wish. The whole concept from The Fitness Chef, reflected on this app, allows for a better relationship with food. It’s calories in and calories out, nice and steady weight loss without deprivation and unsustainable restrictions. And if you don’t follow this chap on instagram, just check him out. The videos are masterpieces! And the messaging is on point. Fab value for money.

Autumn Dreams
I downloaded on release day and I love it. I much prefer it to other “well known fitness apps” which i personally find overly complicated. This app has lots of great resources, made the Chicken Soba last night which is one of the many recipes available - it was lovely and tonight I’m planning another. The meal planner is great and has the functionality for you to be able to create a shopping list. There were a couple of teething issues on day one with the barcode scanner but that was fixed in a couple of hours. This was well communicated by email, with an apology and a clear explanation of why it happened and another email when it was fixed. I’d definitely recommend this if you want a simple to use app with lots of great recipes and tips.
