Description
Quickly access documents, files, folders, and apps from the menu bar.
Think of it as an alternative to Dock folders, just more powerful and customizable.
Each folder you add gets its own menu bar icon that you can customize and move around (drag the menu bar item while holding the Command key).
You can click on a file or folder in the menu to open it.
If you have little menu bar space, you can also show multiple folders in a single menu bar item. See the first FAQ.
Example use-cases:
- Access files relating to your current project
- Use it as an app launcher
- Add your home folder to quickly access anything
- View your most recent screenshots (see FAQ)
- Use it to select which Photos library to open
By taking advantage of Finder aliases, you can create a folder that contains aliases to other folders and files, making it possible to completely customize what's shown in a folder menu. See the FAQ for more.

■ FAQ
‣ How can I show specific files and folders from various places?
You can create a folder that contains aliases to the files and folders you want to be included in the menu.
Create a folder to put aliases in and add that folder to the app. Make aliases for the files and folders you want in the menu and move the aliases into the folder you just made.
‣ What is an alias?
An alias is a shortcut to an app, file, or folder that you can keep anywhere on your Mac. Right-click an item in Finder and select “Make Alias” to make one.
‣ How can I use this as an app launcher?
Yes. Just add the “Applications” folder to the app. If you want to show only specific apps, follow the first FAQ.
‣ How can I show multiple directories at the top level in a single menu?
Follow the first FAQ.
‣ How can I have a menu bar folder with my most recent screenshots?
Make a folder to hold the screenshots and add it to the app. Open the Screenshot app, click “Options”, then “Other Location”, and choose the folder you just made. In Folder Peek, open the folder config, and change the sort order to “Date Created” and set “Max Items” to something like 20.
You can find more info on the app's website.

Wondeful find - Apple pay this man lots of money!
Erm .. where do I start?
Well firstly this is free and it's wonderful.
Quick access to your folders, folder or desktop.
Create one or more menubar shortcuts to key folders, your docunent folder or your whole drive - totally configuarble - all this without the need to go and open finder!
Folder contents are instantly visible with huge previews with options to "open with" - Show in finder, trash, copy or share.
I have set this up to show the 'crap' I dump on my desk top, screen shots mainly, that I want to copy into documents, emails etc and then trash.
Works like a charm.
Love that you can personalise the menu bar icons.
I have two little red icons in my menubar that are easy to find and will be staying there.
Top job !
So useful, and great support
I used to use an app that replaced the Apple logo on the menu bar with the old multi-coloured Apple logo, and that acted like the old menu from OS9 etc, giving you easy quick access to apps, documents etc. That stopped working years ago, but finally I came across Folder Peek which effectively does the same job, except it appears on the right-hand side of the menu bar (I understand that Apple would not accept apps replacing the logo on the left).
It's simple but works very well. You just need to set up a folder (in my case in the main user folder) where you add aliases to folders, apps etc you want quick access to. I have most of the contents of my Applications folder in there, but unlike the actual Applications folder you can arrange your aliases into sub folders (Office Apps, Games etc), making things easier and quicker to find. When clicking the icon on your menu bar it drops down a menu showing the folders etc you have added, in the arrangement you added them. Folders will automatically display their contents when you hover over them, and sub folders will then do the same. Works very well.
It is impressive enough that this is a free app. The support is also excellent. While you could display an icon in the menu bar (from a good size list of included icons) I wanted to show the old multi-coloured Apple logo, so contacted the developer to ask if a custom icon could be an option. A short time later and an update appeared with this functionality. Very impressive even for a paid app, but for a free one, amazing.
