Everything you need to know about every camera worth using.

"How much drive space will I need for this Alexa shoot?”
“How long will these batteries last me on a C300 Mk II?”
"What's the dynamic range of the FS7?”
"How big is this H.264 file going to be when I export?”

If you've ever asked these questions, this is the app for you. Whether you’re making decisions on set, troubleshooting in an edit bay, or figuring out which camera to buy, we’ve got you covered.

• Search over 125 cameras with a list that includes Arri, Canon, Red, Sony, Blackmagic, Panasonic and more. Or browse by format, from modern standards like ProRes and DNxHR to older ones like DVCPro-HD and Betacam.

• Specs include dynamic range, sensor size, native ISO, lens mounts, resolutions, frame rates and more. You’ll see how well each camera and format performs with the latest versions of Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, and DaVinci Resolve. Plus there's a link to the manufacturer's website for firmware & manuals, and a phone number for support in your country.

• Use the Storage Calculator to determine how much footage you can fit on your camera card or hard drive-- or how much storage space you'll need for a given recording time. The Transfer Time estimate shows how long it should take to copy that footage. And the Power Calculator can tell you how long your batteries will last, with the option to factor in accessories like your monitor or wireless transmitter.

"With the abundance of camera formats now out there, it’s easy to get lost with which system can do what. With the Cameras + Formats app this information is now at your fingertips."

"This is one of my favorites. It has every single piece of information for nearly every single camera on the market today. Comparing recording formats between cameras has never been easier."
-Shane Hurlbut, ASC

Best camera formats and data rates calculator on the App Store

Regularly updated. Full of extra info. A responsive developer behind it.
I have used many other data rate calculators in the past, many started out well but all seem to have fallen behind the new cameras and codecs and development ceased altogether. This is up to date and contains loads of extra helpful info about the cameras beyond the data rates.

Developer Response ,

Thanks so much! Let me know if you have any ideas on how to improve the app in the future!

One of the best data calcs and general help tools

I’ve used allot of different data calcs from the aja Calc to MPC. This app is one of the best ones out there which has been updated more frequently than the others to keep up with the different professional cameras on the market from canon to Alexa. 100% recommended

Excellent reference tool

The formats app has been my go to guide for the last few months. I use it daily as a quick reference tool alongside my studies in colour grading/correction. It has a bright and clear interface and is very user friendly. Highly recommended.
