Not fit for purpose

I have been using BaseCamp for years so I know how to use it and what it can and cannot do. This app is essential to connect with and update Garmin GPS units. However, it is almost unuseable. It locks up and spends more time displaying beachball than providing any useful service. I have a new high spec iMac and Basecamp still defeats it.When Basecamp does work, it is great for creating routes and managing tracks and waypoints. Unfortunately the good times are few and far between.Garmin should be ashamed to let down their reasonably good GPS hardware with such terrible software.

I have been using BaseCamp for years so I know how to use it and what it can and cannot do. This app is essential to connect with and update Garmin GPS units. However, it is almost unuseable. Very competent business tool

I use this app exclusively for work. I have to map travel routes of up to 30 specific waypoints across a wide geographical area. I have not found ANY better tool for this purpose. After loading up the adventure into my Garmin device I simply follow the route defined. I can select route avoidances, preferred travel means etc and it just gets on with it. The updates are fairly regular so I dont often get caught out by new industrial/residential developments. The most useful function I have found is the ’time to next via point’ which really helps with route planning during a business day. Given that this app is free and is available in PC/IOS formats I feel Garmin really deserves credit for continuing to support this product … my job would be much harder without this app.

I've used Basecamp for years. It's an essential tool if you need to manage thousands of waypoints and edit lots of tracks. Basecamp does this very well, and over the years there've been lots of improvements under the hood. I was worried that Garmin weren't going to upgrade it to 64-bit, so it was a really good news to find that the latest version was 64-bit. So thank you Garmin, and in particular the Basecamp team, for continuing to support this software - and continuing to provide a Mac version.

I've used Basecamp for years. It's an essential tool if you need to manage thousands of waypoints and edit lots of tracks. Basecamp does this very well, and over the years there've been lots of improvements under the hood. I was worried that Garmin weren't going to upgrade it to 64-bit, so it was a really good news to find that the latest version was 64-bit. So thank you Garmin, and in particular the Basecamp team, for continuing to support this software - and continuing to provide a Mac version.

Latest version (4.8.9) crashes on a regular basis when calculating routes, usually dumping the user's last couple of activities, which is infuriating.BaseCamp shows maps, roads, routes and features in a very useful way - although it has a tendency to become cluttered easily. The road descriptions are very US-centric meaning that one needs to know, for example, what an "interstate" is before excluding or including in route calculations. This is a simple matter on its own but unfortunately the whole application is littered with this sort of thing.
