I want to go back !

I LOVE this game ! I have only just discovered it but immediately reccommended it to my husband BUT please, please, please, please ,please put in a go back button ! So that we can look back ! I keep thinking my guess will be rubbish, put my blue flash elsewhere only to discover I was very near indeed PLUS sometimes I am ‘surprised by joy at how beautiful a place was and I want to go back to have another look Also I dash headlong through to get rid of the USA because if I guess correctly it is the USA I think it jolly mean how few points I get, just because it is a few thousand kilometres away whereas I feel cleverer for knowing it was somewhere in the USA than confusing Southern Poland with Northern Germany ! Still,I do want to say thank you and I cannot wait to get new places
Wish I could get back to the photo in front of Jardin des Plantes-do not see it somehow-if that is the Rue Buffon it has gone Downhill -admittedly it could be in one of the many shabby backstreets because Paris is woefully inadequate at guillotining graffiti vandals !

Great game…. but

Listen. Geoguessr is a great game. It’s really addicting and fun and you get to see places you haven’t seen before. What’s even better is that there are no ads. The only problem is that the free games take AGES to refill. I mean it. It’s a 3 hour wait to refill your play tickets and to play other modes you have to wait even longer. Devs, if you are reading this, even shortening the wait by half an hour will do wonders.
UPDATE: The developers have made this game so much more enjoyable. Many thanks to the GG Team, would defo recommend downloading this app.

Updated review

We were watching the GeoGuessr qualifiers and decided to download the game, after playing all our free tickets we wanted to play against each other but you need pro membership for that. We decided to try it out for a month. I paid for mine and they paid for theirs. Mine still appeared time locked. But theirs wasn’t. Checked to see if payment had gone through, it had. My profile says pro, I can play against people now but my solo game play is still time locked. I’ve logged in and out, uninstalled and reinstalled but nothing has changed. I’ve emailed GeoGuessr for help but I’m yet to hear anything. Fingers crossed it can be sorted rather than wasting £3.50. *update*
I have now cancelled my sub, I will not be renewing, I emailed about the problems I was having and it’s every excuse under the sun and having to jump through hoops. It takes more than 24h to get replies even if you answer straight away. When my wife and I signed up at the exact same time at the same price and her features and completely unlocked and mine aren’t but no one can explain why without finding a poor excuse that solves nothing. So no I wouldn’t bother with this game.

Good execution... some bad ideas

This is a great translation over to the app. If you like this on the web browser then you’ll love it here it is a really really good game and works very well in app form... except for one massive problem.

THE FIRST MAP SHOULDNT BE THE WHOLE WORLD...

More often than not you get dropped onto a hundreds of kilometres long straight road in the central US, Brazilian rainforest, or Siberian tundra without any reasonable way to work out where you are. You need coins to unlock the other maps which is fair but I don’t see why the world map was the first when it’s very clearly going to be the most difficult one... when I want to start a game and I’m confronted with the desert of central Mexico with rusted buildings and no signs for miles I just give up. It makes the whole experience deflating. I get one place within 3m thanks to clever reasoning, road signs, geography, even a tourist map. 3/5 perfect score. Ruined by a featureless obscured pine forest that looks like Russia but is in fact northern Canada... thanks game.

Pretty decent, but still a work in progress

I like it. It’s fascinating, but it needs work to improve it. Here are my suggestions for improvements (aimed at the developer, obvs).
1) The first set of maps should be the player’s home country, not the world. It should be the ultimate achievement to unlock the world map. You play home to start with, them unlock all the others one by one, until there’s only the world left. Build us up to achieve, don’t put us off with near-impossible tasks from the start!
2) Put the ‘Guess’ button anywhere but bottom left (or centre)! It’s far too easy to accidentally tap it without realising. And have a ‘confirm guess’ option for safety. I get fed up with games being cut short because I brush over the button accidentally.
3) Get rid of the bug that causes the screen to lock onto one finger. Too often it ‘sticks’ to my fingertip while I’m moving it and instead of moving the map, for example, it zooms in and out, and the only way to unstick it is to tap, which sets down a guess marker, then problem 2 kicks in.
4) Add a ‘Save game’ option. I don’t often have time for 5 maps at once, but I don’t like leaving an app open but unused. It’s a waste of memory that I need for whatever other functions and apps I’m using. It’s so annoying having to start a whole new game every time I open the app.

Those will do for starters. Please, developers, put these features in, and turn a good game into a great one!

Why, oh why do we have to have those ridiculous clicks?

The concept is top hole, the delivery pretty nifty, but it has some REALLY ANNOYING FEATURES! I have to play with the sound off on my iPad because I can’t find a Settings button to do it within the game. I can’t stand the ridiculous noises developers put into programs, and the reverberating clicks you get on this one are way down there with some of the least favourites.

Then there’s the habit it has of dropping you somewhere where you have to click for miles and miles before you can even find a reliable clue to what continent you’re on, never mind which country. The worst are the ones where the image quality is so poor that roadside lettering has to be enormous for you to read it. You just have to hope it eventually brings you out into a better quality image.

And the most annoying is how, not content with freezing up for minutes on end while it works out where the next bit is, it suddenly opens up the map on you and tells you you’ve just guessed the location wrong (of course it’s wrong, I didn’t enter a guess!), and you’ve got no points for that go because it thought you were guessing Patagonia when you needed to be in Warsaw. There needs to be a guess-confirm stage to avoid this, and a back button for when it’s entered a guess for you, so you can correct its errors.

There’s still a lot of work to be done to bring it up to scratch.

Positive And Negative😃😔

Your game is very addicting, you can explore different countries in the world and play multiplayer with your friends, you can even challenge someone, this is one of the games that test your geography knowledge, hope you have been doing well in school then! Who would of thought that this game would go viral across the internet? See who gets the most countries right, look at the leaderboard to see where you are at…BUT THERE IS ONE BIG PROBLEM, you have to wait 7hrs to have another 5 turns, I don’t know how anyone is not talking about this in their reviews for this game, I have left other reviews like this on other games, especially learning games, so I hope you understand the purpose in this review, maybe next update will be better?

Yours faithfully, Esra Celik

RIP GeoGuessr (UPDATED)

This new version is woeful and developers will do well to rethink this ASAP. Pass and play is gone, everything points to a subscription. I’d be happy to pay a lump sum for the app to play it as it was WITH the maps I had unlocked. Whatever this new “battle royale” route for monetisation is is dreadful. Dreadful update riding on the back of historical good ratings

Update 26 Aug 21 - the developer has been commenting on a number of posts to say they’ve “added” maps when in fact, they’ve merely reinstated the maps that they removed. Pass and play is still not available and I have a countdown of “free” games. I again revert to the above where I’d rather pay a lump sum for the app and be done with it but greed has prevailed here and judging by the other recent reviews, the public have spoken. Devs have made a mess at trying to monetise a popular app and have isolated its fans in doing so. RIP GeoGuessr

Black screen glitch

I’ll start by saying that we love playing this game! It’s a great way to explore the world, and I think that many hiccups in gameplay have been improved over the years.
What’s been really annoying me lately is that every 10-20 levels, you’ll get one that is just a black screen and if you click around blindly you might get the images of the last level you completed, but the map thinks you’re somewhere else. Leaving the level and restarting doesn’t fix it - you just have to make a wild guess and lose your country streak, which ruins the competitive aspect of the game, sadly. I hope this can be fixed soon.

Starts out fun, ends up disappointing

This is a great game to start with. I began playing the map with the famous tourist attractions. I must admit there were 2 or three I didn’t know the location of. Had great fun trying to pinpoint the exact location of the start point. But then the trouble starts, clicking on the map is completely inaccurate, it sometimes puts you 100m from where you seem to have placed your marker, so that ruins the fun fast. And when you try the more advanced maps, there’s a common theme. Find the most desolate piece of road in uninhabited terrain with no signs, buildings, references for 20-30 miles in either direction, so you sit there mindlessly clicking for half an hour until you find a tiny clue and then somehow you’re expected to know exactly at which Bush in 50 miles of identical road/scenery you started. That’s a chore, not a fun puzzle.
