Local database, very good

I've spent years trying to find a good dlna player and struggled, c5 was about the best but a number of aspects made this pretty unusable. So far, Glider seems to be great, I can see it takes up some storage, so I think what must happen is it creates a local database, much like the wonderful winamp for the pc. This means its fast. I can’t understand why this has been so hard but delighted we seem to be finally there. Well done Glider...

A few issues...

Am I missing something, because this app just doesn’t work for me. I continuously have to re-sync the music on my NAS Drive, and even then it takes forever and a day and never actually completes the task. I’m not sure if this is because I am using a different wi-fi network during the day at work and don’t have access to the NAS Drive which is connected to my home wi-fi network? Half of the albums I have spent the last 6 months editing on my Mac and ensuring tags and metadata are correct, are listed under ‘Unknown Artist’. I have a very large music library of lossless quality music so it’s a real shame I have these issues as the Glider interface is just what I was looking for. I have no issues using the MusicStreamer app to access my stored music library and can access music in offline mode, so I guess until the Glider app works for me, I will have to use MS instead

Getting there

In a world of dodgy music players, it nice to come across some software that works without fuss. Yes it lacks some functions I’d like to see and for this reason I won’t be buying just yet.

I use minimserver, so would like to see options to categorise music using specific tags. The lack of playlist. All upnp based software don’t support rating, which I get around using tags, but can’t display this tag.

While the interface is very clean, it lacks a function that every upnp software lacks, save lumin. The ability to resize the cover art. I want to be able to look at cover art with one or two images per screen.

Finally, in a connected world all these players fall down on finding more information about an album, song or artist. The naim app is probably the best at this, but ultimately fails because of the interface. I understand there’s possibly a cost with using good quality sources, but why not offer as an add on purchase?

For the record, I use the following in this order; lumin (lots of features, messy interface), linn kazoo (nice interface, lacks features), naim app (almost nice interface, lacks features). At present beyond these only glider comes close.
