What’s New

Version 2.4

Like many others during the pandemic, our small team (there’s like 3 of us there or thereabouts), have been hunkering down and staying home. Apart from looking after our own families and mental health, we have been beavering away on a brand new FREE nature connection feature, Nature Notes.

Created in partnership with the Nature Connectedness Research Group at the University of Derby, Nature Notes is based on a research app and study, we were involved with which examined the responses of more than 800 people, including 150 people with a mental health condition. The study demonstrated that engaging with nature and tuning into nature boosts your connection with the natural world and plays an important role in maintaining good mental health and wellbeing.

Nature Notes is a bit like a nature diary or journal to capture the good things you see in everyday nature. Daily prompts remind you to notice the natural world and can be used as a tool to help you self-manage mental health and wellbeing during this time of crisis - and beyond. Nature Notes can be used within your home or garden or as part of your local walks and outdoor adventures.

Now more than ever before, a new relationship with the natural world is fundamental to helping us navigate social and physical distancing, climate breakdown and the trials and tribulations of modern life.

Nature Notes is really simple to use:

Take a moment to pause and notice the good things in nature.
It could be as simple as noticing a bird singing or the colours and movement of a tree in the breeze - and the joy and calm it brings.
When you're ready, write a short note in the app about a good thing you noticed in nature. You can include a picture if you like.
Doing this everyday for a week can provide a month's wellbeing benefit.

We hope that you enjoy this new feature! There’s more to come so do let us know if you have any questions or comments or need help over at hi@gojauntly.com. Take care and stay safe!

IOS Needed Updating

Earlier on today I rated this app and gave it a low score of one star. After my iphone updated its IOS operating system. I re installed app and then it started work fine, so before installing the app make sure your IOS is the latest edition. Once I got the app up and running I only had a couple of minor issues, and to be fair one of them wasn’t the app’s fault. I found the mapping to be a bit inaccurate and in places showing to be a t a slightly different street. The other problem was 100% not the apps. Due to it being Christmas Eve one of the parks where route goes had closed early. So I had to use public streets as alternative route and got a bit lost. Luckily I saw a familiar bus number found a bus stop with bus info and realised that on the other side of the road there was bus stop to take. But overall the app did enable me to get out and discover some interesting things to and help me get some great photos.

Hi there! Thanks for taking the time to review Go Jauntly. We are sorry to hear that there were a couple of issues to begin with but glad you got going with it. We are looking to continously improve the app based on your feedback and are looking into map accuracy and enhancing that. Glad you got to take some great photos! We'd love to see them. Hope that you are having a great 2019 so far. All the best from the Go Jauntly gang x

Check your home area

I bought the full version of this app whilst on holiday in North Wales. There was a great range of walks that seemed to be clearly described. The weather turned really bad so didn’t get to use them but was looking forward to using the app to help me explore my home area. Unfortunately once back home it has no walks in my area at all. There is one approx 30 mins drive and that is (quite literally) a pub crawl round some quite nasty pubs. There are a few countryside walks approx 40 mins drive away and the rest are an hour or more. I could of found walks that distance away myself. I’ve since had a look at other apps that seem to of managed to find quite a few decent walks within a reasonable distance (that aren’t pub crawls). So I’ve basically paid £20 for something that I haven’t actually used and probably never will.
Edit: I have applied for a refund through Apple but of course I am outside of the 14 days so it was immediately declined, so the fact that I’ve been ill is irrelevant to them.

Hey Valgrind, thanks for downloading the app and upgrading, we really appreciate it although we understand that you feel unhappy with that now and we’re sorry for that. Have you got any other holidays coming up? Hopefully you’ll be able to use the app’s premium features then too. We’re a self-funded, tech for good venture, to try and help get more people walking. We want the app to remain free so we’re accessible to as many people as possible but are super grateful when people like yourselves help us to cover the costs of running the app by upgrading for a month or longer like you. You can of course continue using all the free features like the walking map and ourselves and the community are adding more walks to the app all the time. If you fancy it, do email us over at hi@gojauntly.com and let us know whereabouts in the UK you are based and we’ll set about prioritising your region. Thanks again for leaving us some feedback. Take care!

A great idea. But when I checked local walks in E Kent, they were self indulgent posts of people’s photos, not a photo based guide to a route.
I can ignore them of course, but there may be a danger in allowing people who don’t understand the concept in posting their material. It could swamp the ap. Maybe edit out rubbish if resources allow?
Update - The developer has explained that part of the idea was to allow posting of highlights but not necessarily full walks - which seems a good idea. Plus they do curate offerings. So for me it’s 5 star now.
A bit like Wikipedia. Improves as we add content and may eventually have thousands of entries. So be patient if no walks near you yet.

Developer Response ,

Hey there, thanks so much for you comment and for taking the time to feedback. Really pleased you think its a great idea and can see the opportunity. We've been piloting in London and have lots of walk in West Kent are are making our way East imminently. We have some great walks in Whistable and Margate and we are monitoring the content and doing exactly what you suggested - whoop! Please note that you can report any issues or concerns with routes via the walk in-app and we hope that the community continues to feedback and promote their favourite walks. Every walk that gets created and shared is getting better and better and sometimes it is just about showcasing an amazing place or points of interest and the other person enjoying a leisurely wander in that destination and either improving on the walk by curating their own or just being outdoors. Thanks so much again for taking the time to get in touch. Please stay in touch and do pass on your feedback to us. You can reach us on all the socials or via our website. All the best x
