Description

Golf is a card game for two or more players, in which the object is to score as little as possible, as in the sport of Golf. In front of each player is a layout of cards arranged in a square or rectangle, 2 x 2, and players improve their scores by drawing new cards to replace unwanted cards, which they discard. Each deal is seen as the equivalent of a hole of Golf, and in many versions a complete game consists of 9 or 18 deals, corresponding to the length of a Golf course.

Play

The object is for players to reduce the value of the cards in front of them by either swapping them for lesser value cards or by pairing them up with cards of equal rank.

Beginning at dealer's left, players take turns drawing single cards from either the stock or discard piles. The drawn card may either be swapped for one of that player's 4 cards, or discarded. If the card is swapped for one of the face down cards, the card swapped in remains face up. The round ends when a player knocks or ends round which can happen at any point. Remaining players then have one turn to draw a card to improve their hands and then scores are totaled and recorded on a running score sheet.

During play it is legal for a player to pick up a card from the discard pile and return it to the discard pile without playing it to allow another player to retrieve the card.

Penalties

You can play with Knock penalties. Which when a player calls the round and fails to have the lowest hand they can have a penalty of ten points added to the final score.

What cards are visible

You can select no cards visible bottom cards visible just to the player, The top and bottom cards visible to only the player. Or learning mode to see all the cards in everyones hand. Just remember the game gets harder if you have the bottom cards and or the top and bottom cards visible since you can see your cards the computer also has that ability.

My nickname's taken! ,

You cannot see any of the card faces.

Having downloaded a different version of a ‘Gold Card Game’ and enjoyed it I thought I would see if there was a version for my desktop computer. There was only this one and it was fairly inexpensive, so I decided to give it a try.
There were ‘instructions’ on how to play but not how to actually select cards or what to do with them.
I went into settings and changed them to the type of play I wanted, just to try it, and after changing the number of players, the appearance of the cards, whether or not I wanted to see the top two cards or both top and bottom and one or two other settings. I then made a point of saving these settings and went to start a game.
Where I had selected two opponents there were four of us. The card colour hadn’t changed at all.
Where I had asked to see the top two cards showing (this is where it becomes a real joke) the ONLY card I could identify was the one on the discard pile.
How can you play cards when you can’t actually see which cards you have?
The ‘settings’ did absolutely nothing.
I gave this game a one star rating (which means I hate it) but from my experience I think one star is one star too many because I haven’t been able to experience the game at all.
Whilst I have been typing this I have notice where it says “If you need support, please visit Golf Card Game Support”. I will give it a try.
The only thing in favour of this game was that it was cheap. Even so I feel as if I have been robbed.
