Lifeline

The GrandPad has been a lifesaver for my 92 year old mother during lockdown. She never dreamt that she’d get so much out of video calls and family photos. When it arrived she couldn’t see the point of getting it out of the box - now it goes everywhere with her and she is distraught without it. Nothing is too much trouble for the team. I’ve even been contacted to be told my mother wasn’t charging her Grandpad properly. Great service. Thank you. My mother would have had to move into a home without her GrandPad.

Really impressed by this tablet. Due to Covid-19 we thought to get Nan a device for her stay connected with the family. Great little tablet. Easy for my 86yr old Nan to use and navigate around. Used for photo sharing, gaming, listening to music, emailing and browsing. The customer service she has received is outstanding and one of the best products I’ve bought this year would recommend it to anybody five stars.

An invaluable acquisition for our 90yo Mum

When lockdown was imposed we were looking for a livelier way than daily phone calls to keep in touch with our mother. We did hesitate a little over the cost, but so glad we (or rather she) bit the bullet.

One reviewer suggested it would be better and simpler to opt for a regular tablet, but that is missing the point. If Mum had been able to get to grips with my old iPad (and we had spent hours trying), we too would have gone down that route. But she struggled with the size of the icons and the complexities of choice ... just tmi.

The GrandPad has been designed specifically with the very elderly in mind - no fiddly charger cable that would be awkward in arthritic fingers; huge, clear icons; ultra-simple processes; a complementary screen pen as touch-screens don’t respond well to ancient fingertips.

With lockdown in place everything had to be set up remotely.
Maybe we were just lucky, but our GrandPad family administrator could not have been friendlier or more helpful. There have been hiccups, but she has always been on hand to sort them out with amazing efficiency.

Mum is as pleased (and as astonished) as we are that as well as video chats she has been able to see photos posted by the family group and upload her own photos. Another ‘elderly orientated’ feature is that while we, with our companion apps, type in comments on the photos, Mum simply records hers, so no typing to contend with.

There are email and internet facilities built in, as well as pre-loaded games, but in our experience the primary value of the GrandPad and its companion apps is the visual links and sense of inclusion it provides for people who are excluded from WhatsApp, Zoom and other virtual socialising that we have all become so reliant on. The only facility sadly not yet available is multi-way calls - though that may be to avoid confusion on the part of the GP owner.
