Description

Grocery is the smartest and fastest grocery shopping app. Keep your list sorted while you shop with syncing support for iCloud and Reminders. Easily add shopping list items from Siri and Recipes.

** App Store iOS App of the Day - January 23rd 2021**

** MacStories Must-Have iOS Apps - 2018 **

"Extra navigational steps, like remembering where you are in a list or backtracking through a store because of the order on paper, can really push a person over the edge if going to the store is their current 'Impossible Task'. They might opt for leaving with only half of their items, or just not go at all…which can project this task into the future, always a little unfinished or uncertain. Grocery reduces steps needed in the moment, and provides that little bit of joy every time an item is checked off the list in the UI. Knowing that I just made the future better, by going to the store and checking things off the list and improving the sorting algorithm! This is actually a huge relief: reduced doomsday feelings because I know that future store runs are going to be even easier/better because of what I did today (yay positive agency)!" - Amelia W.

Brilliant, just needs a few touches!

I use this app for writing up my weekly shopping, as I need something that’s easy to organise/shuffle items around, and easy to mark and later delete items for starting a new list the following week. The app is great in this respect, if sometimes a little slow/buggy when shuffling items around.

My only issue with the app is that although it works with the Apple Watch, no matter how you organise your list within the app itself, on the watch, the list order will just default back to alphabetical. Which makes it slightly frustrating because I put things in store order so I don’t forget them! I’d love to have both hands free in store and just use my watch but this feature makes it not really viable.

Brilliant app let down by one problem

I’ve been using this for a while and it is almost the perfect shopping list app, and the ability to have the same list on the watch is great.

It is let down by one thing only - the fact that it uses Apple reminders to share lists. When this works, it is incredibly useful, but when it breaks and the lists stop being shared it is all but impossible to get it going again. My sync has now stopped for the second time and no amount of fiddling about will get it working again.

It is a shame, because the sync problem is clearly Apple’s and nothing to do with grocery itself. But grocery could ideally do to be able to share lists internally or else use another sync option that doesn’t use reminders.

Sadly as the sharing and syncing of lists is the main reason for me to use such an app, I have had to delete it and am trying Keep from Google, who’s syncing I have always found to be rock solid.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback. It looks like iOS 13 will make reminders sync more reliable, but we understand the frustration. We also just finished implementing our own version of iCloud sync, so the option to use our own iCloud-based list might come in a future version.

Great shopping list app - 5 stars

This is a little gem of an app, based on the foundation of the stock Reminders app, so sync is fast and reliable. It’s pretty slick in use, and is neatly designed and easy on the eye. It’s got enough features to make it genuinely useful, but not so many as to be bloated, a good balance.

Where it really excels though is if you have an Apple Watch, as the Watch companion app is (as of v1.2.0) lightning fast. Keeping your iPhone in your pocket and managing your shopping list on your Watch is just great, and Grocery does this really well.

Like a lot of people, I’ve been through many shopping list apps, but Grocery really is a terrific product, good enough on iPhone but paired with Apple Watch, it’s unbeatable!
