Adjust according to need
A well designed application.
I regard HazeOver as an essential aid for maintaining focus on my work and wonder why
Apple designers did not include this feature in the OS a long time ago.
Frankly I have always been puzzled about this aspect of the Apple Mac display aesthetic.
In principle I like the emphasis on subtle visual cues to tell you important information,
Everything is grey, very sparse use of colour and one window looks just like another.
If for any reason it is difficult to maintain sustained focus on the screen this subtlety of
image can work against you. This was the situation that prompted me to search for an
application to dim the background. I found and tried several, but for my taste HazeOver
yeilds the most satisfying solution and I particularly appreciate the range of adjustment
to the dimming effect, which can be adjusted according to need.
Examples:
• Copy many pieces of text from a Pages document across to a spreadsheet,
• Compare two documents, one on a web page and one you are writing
• read a poem without distractions.
Dimming can be increased, reduced or turned off.
Does exactly what it says on the tin, and moreso
This is a beautiful app that does exactly what you expect it to do. It also allows configuration of highlight colour and animations, the displays which it will effect and allows customisation of keyboard shortcuts. The latest update even comes with settings which allow you to set custom settings based on the active Focus in MacOS Ventura. The developer has clearly shown they are dedicated to support the app for the forseeable future and they are focused on creating single-purpose apps that do one job well.

Great enhancement to Mac
This app is an excellent addition to the Mac OS as it allows me to concentrate on the active window, even if I have numerous other windows open on the desktop. It seems to work seamlessly on my 2017 MacBook Pro, and I love the ability to adjust the level of dimness on the background windows. I happen to like having the status icon in the menu bar, as it gives me quick access to options and preferences, but this can easily be turned off for those that don’t like it.
